Rating: Summary: One toke over the line.... Review: Why is it that everybody who gave this book a bad review jabbered something about "not getting it"? Most likely it is because they are either stupid, or close-minded, or both. Not a good thing for them. This book is a must have for anybody who can read--and most who can't. Gonzo style writing is wildly subjective and very twisted, yet somehow it is alos accurate and insiteful, not to mention funny as Tom Wolfe's punctuation. Nevermind that. Read the book!
Rating: Summary: get this book and you will not regret it Review: Truly an amazing book Dr.Hunter s. Thompson really out did his self of this long journing into madness aka Las Vegas. This is one of the only books that make you paranoid along with them that twists your brain around and makes you worry and wonder about our heros who are Thompson as Raoul Duke and his attorney Oscar Zetta Acosta as Dr.Gonzo This book with take you along for the ride as soon as you pick it up it you will be pull into their hallucinagetic nightmare and wont be able to put it down . And four hours later when your done you wipe the sweat from you brim and you want to go back for more but thats it you can be releived but allways somewhere inside you pure gonzo will be waiting to come back out.
Rating: Summary: From a Teenager's perspective of 69 to 72 Review: I read this when i was 12. A year later the film was released and the both show the apocalypse of the psycadelic era. The LSD and Mescalin fueled trips of Gonzo journalism are portrayed just as the should be in a modern classic. Gonzo was the way. The ilustrations were the finishing polish in this book. Everyone should read it. Even if they hate the 60's. It shows a different point of view to anything else ive read. Buy it. Read it. Treasure it.
Rating: Summary: a beautiful saga of a change in generation Review: hunter is one of the most amazing authors of our time, in fear and loathing we go along with him through drug binges and maddening adventures most of us could never even imagine.....and through his search for the american dream we find hunters view on the changing of a decade and what the sixties really meant.......read it...
Rating: Summary: a strange and terrible journey into the worst of trips Review: could anything possibly capture the mind-numbing terror and unexplainable enjoyment of an acid trip more than this novel? i haven't found anything yet. thompson drags us kicking and screaming with him to the edge of sanity as raoul duke and dr. gonzo subject themselves to the worst kinds of torture. i found myself often white-knuckled. fear and loathing is a quick read, taking me between 4 and 5 hours over 2 sittings to finish. if i could give it more than five stars, i would. paul death
Rating: Summary: Hilliarious and sometimes incredulous at the same time. Review: If your looking for an existential take on modern day soul searching, comic-relief, and overzealous behaviour, this is one you will want to take the time to read.
Rating: Summary: Hunter S. is a god among authors Review: I would have to say that Fear and Loathing is one of those books that could stand up and define a decade. It portrays the loss and hopelessness of the post-war, post sixties section of America who was forgotten about. The basic underlying theme of the novel is the search for the American Dream that constant search for one's own piece of the American Pie, and then realizing that this search as Thompson put it "was a lame mess-around". Therefore we should indulge in all of the pleasantries and live the fast life since there is definately no place for us in this button down yuppie society. This is definately a rock solid piece of literature and I would recommend it to anyone with a strong stomach and an open mind.
Rating: Summary: Jamie Review: I havent read the book yet but im deffently going to. I saw the movie and it was grait. HST is the graitest author ever and Johnny Depp and Benico Deltoro are the graitest actors ever! I hope the book is as grait as the movie.
Rating: Summary: A wild ride Review: I didn't think I would like this book because I'm not that interested in 1960s culture or anything. But it is an entertaining book. I'm not sure how relevant it is to a general reader today. Thompson seems to have had something important to say in this book. I'm just not sure I got it.
Rating: Summary: Cult classic. Both hilarious and dark. Review: If you could only read one book in your life, I'd recommend this over the bible......
