Rating: Summary: Fear and Loathing Review: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is the best book I've ever read about a drug escapade. Many factors come into play how people don't understand the drug users. A journalist and his attorney set out to cover a race called "The Mint 400" but along the way with unlimited spending power they add to the rental car more than journalist equiptment. They pack the trunk of their rental full of so many drugs that they could keep a small army messed up for awhile. With a great deal of luck and a few close calls the duo made an unsucessful atempt at journalism but a sucessful atempt at findind the American Dream. I highly recomend reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Everyone loves Fear and Loathing. Review: Those that love to read about people's adventures during the 60's and 70's will love Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. This is a story of a journalist who travels to Vegas to cover a race called "The Mint 400". The only problem is he is a doctor of journalism and an event like this has to be covered is all of the correct preportions. To do this he and his attorny get numerous amounts of drugs and alcohol. They arrive at Vegas just in time to cover the story, but that is the last thing that they want to do. The real purpose of their journey is to find the American Dream. They found it alright but when they saw what it really was they said forget it. They go around breaking all kinds of laws and create all sorts of rukkus. It was all in good fun though and nobody really got hurt. Through out this journey they learn many things including never to give a 16 year old girl that you don't know acid. This book is a very deeply descriptive book and it really puts you in the mind of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. I enjoyed this book so much that I have read several other of his books and I have seen the movies.
Rating: Summary: Read this book before you see the movie! Review: I made the mistake of doing that. The book goes into more depth then the movie now don't get me wrong the movie is wonderful it follows the book wonderfully but Hunter S. Thompson is a wonderful writer with so much to say and the way he writes made me laugh. By all means read this book
Rating: Summary: Read my Review!NOW! Review: I thought that Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing was the funniest book I have ever read. The way Thompson makes you feel the pure lunacy of the whole situation and you can actually feel his paranoia. I thought it was comic genius the way him and Dr. Gonzo were always on the same wavelength. The story never slows down and only gets off topic into drug related tangents towards the end. And even those give the book more of a personal feel, so that the characters are not always depicted as drug-crazed beasts. The book is full of hilarious stories and I highly recommend it. Also, check out the movie. It will help you understand the book a little better because they are exactly the same.
Rating: Summary: A demented romp through the mind of a madman Review: Someone once said this is the funniest book in the English language. That may or may not be true, but it probably is the most entertaining book I've ever read.Sick, depraved, and drug-addled, Hunter S. Thompson is a genuine literary genius. You would be hard pressed to find a more intelligent page-turner than "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." It flys by. This is probably my favorite book of all time. Raol rules.
Rating: Summary: Mescaline Mayhem Review: This book plays no misnomers as being a tale of "fear" and the "loathing" of what lies behind the American Dream. Hunter S. Thompson is both witty and darkly hysterical as usual in this "Fear and Loathing" installation of his ongoing volumes of Gonzo Journalism. This is the tale of a trip he and his lawyer took to Las Vegas on a contract for a magazine article. From the very start, the mayhem and the lunacy overcome the duo, and they essentially are led on a giant rollercoaster through the Las Vegas desert. At first, things run fairly smoothly, that is until the drugs overcome the two men's ambitions, and it all goes berzerk in quite a very Thompson fashion. The two men hit the lounge scene from cheesy hotel to cheesy hotel on the strip. A young woman even gets involved in a very heated part of novel. As no surprise, heavy doses of Acid not only manage to get them in this bad situation, but it also seems to help them out of it. An abundance of booze and illegal narcotics, especially Mescaline, seem to be the #1 catalysts in this adventure. The main message with this novel seems to be: "It's all fun and games until someone gets an eye out." Which is exactly the message Hunter S. Thompson wanted to address with this book. A little booze and drugs may be good in a recreational sense, but excess can lead you on a one way ticket to disaster.
Rating: Summary: The adventure you wish you had. Review: This book is about more than just drugs and Vegas. Throughout this romp of Thompson and his lawyer, they completely disregard everyone (and everything they stand for) that they run into. Thompson's commentary is sharp and hilarious. In the movie, most of the funniest scenes were edited out (oddly enough) or only hinted at. Flawlessly readable, entertaining.
Rating: Summary: A really good book Review: This is one of the best books I have read. It's really funny at times and the fact that it's all true makes it even more amazing.
Rating: Summary: Fear & Loathing, always a classic Review: I received this book from a friend, and I read it that same day, there's something about Thompson's tales, that make you want to keep reading to find out what they'll try and pull next. This book shows an important part of American history, and should be forever remembered as the greatest drug binge of all times, not bad for a journalist.
Rating: Summary: Those who dislike, lack critical ethics. Review: Dr. Thompson is truly the greatest word-smith of his time. His thought process he portrayes are those of unworthy millions who can't spit them out. Dr. Thompson is truly a credit to his profession, a towering god in the "new journalism" world. For those who DO NOT enjoy his readings.....your simply lame. Thompson's books are where it's at. Buy the ticket, take the ride..
