Rating: Summary: nice guys finish last somtimes Review: These laws are for the seasoned veteran of sucess books the ultimate counterweight to books that tell you the nice guy always wins. There are three games in life: #1 play by the rules. #2 you can try to change the rules. #3 the game where there are no rules. This book helps you play game #3 which black america has really no experience playing because of their strong religious beliefs which apparently aren't working. Those who are religious need to check out how their pastor is getting rich at their expense that's law # 27. Often success books presuppose that if your're a nice guy treat everyone how you would like to be treated; you will be treated likewise, but there are plenty of people in this world who don't play your rules and this could send you into a tailspin if you're not aware of these laws. This is precisly why the black church is finishing dead last (except for the pastors Pastor Frederick k.c.Price, Creflo dollar, etc). It is not logical. Blacks need to learn to master these laws of power to really start winning.
Rating: Summary: The Blue Pill or The Red One? Review: I enjoyed reading all the reviews almost as much as reading this great book. Those who wrote negatively regarding this book, I liken to the guy in the movie "the matrix". Knowing the truth, he prefered being reprogrammed back to a time when he was ignorant to what was really going on, and despised those who desired to live in truth, prefering the facts to not be disclosed to others. This book is accurate regarding the ethics, morals, and politics of others. It's not saying all people display all these negative points. This book is not for everyone, because most people are followers, and don't like knowing the traits and thought processes of leaders. They would prefer to be ignorant to lifes nuances. Its very true the statement "ignorance is bliss". If you would like a enlightening great read, buy this book. If you would love to think that this world ISNT a dog eat dog world, pass this one by. The blue pill or the red one?
Rating: Summary: The book of Gold Review: I HAVE BEEN STUDING POWER, INFLUENCE, AND MANIPULATION FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS. THIS BOOK I BOUGHT OVER A YEAR AGO TO THE WRITING OF THIS REVIEW. THE 48 LAWS OF POWER IS AN ABSOLUTE MILESTONE IN INFORMATION ON THE SUBJECT OF POWER. I ASK MYSELF IF I'M ANY MORE POWERFUL THAN I WAS A YEAR AGO DUE TO THIS BOOK? YES, AFTER READING THIS BOOK AND RE-READING AND YET RE-READING THIS BOOK I FIND LIFE EAISER, I HAVE MORE CONTROL OF MANY SITUATIONS, AND I HAVE MORE INFLUENCE OVER THE THINGS I WANT. SINCE THIS BOOK I HAVE READ OVER 18 OTHER BOOKS ON THE TOPIC OR DEALING WITH SOME ASPECT OF POWER AND I'M STILL SEARCHING FOR ONE THAT COULD CHALLENGE THIS BOOK AND I'M YET TO FIND THAT BOOK. I GAVE THIS BOOK 4 STARS BECAUSE IT IS VERY COMPLICATED TO USE THE INFORMATION IN THIS BOOK IN REAL LIFE SITUATIONS. I BELIEVE THE BOOK WOULD BE BETTER IF WRITTEN DIFFERENTLY.
Rating: Summary: "48 laws to "POWER"?!? Review: "Every book, at least most of them, will teach you something- will open a new road (option) of life you could follow if you chose too. Bad,dishonest,non-sense books too - can do the same if you could just think and understand the contrary of them" -is what I think everytime I buy a book or while I read them. So I bought the "48 laws to Power" by the "rare and most powerful" man "everybody" knows Mr.Robert Greene!!! I bought it, because as a honest,kind-to-all,thoughtful man - I got to suffer tens of times from the powerless" people like the writer of this book itself -so I thought "The power that I gained from my kind and empathic honest personality might get guarded eternally by this book" And I was right. Everything evil, dishonest, unfair guidance happened to be inside this book. "Great...I know how to protect myself from now on" - I said to myself - and so will you my dear powerful friends if you just understand and follow the Contrary of what this "very powerful man" has written for us.While you are reading this book You may be as high as the Mt Everest mountain but remember that if you let yourself be guided by this book (in the REAL LIFE in which HONESTY and FAIRNESS always sooner or later is the WINNER) You may find yourself as low as the greatest depth of Pacific Ocean. And PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THIS BOOK IS A MUST HAVE AND A MUST READ.
Rating: Summary: Beware Review: After you start reading about compliance and influence you won't be able to look at things the same way. If you understand and comprehened these principles then they will affect you and your daily life. It is invisible power and that which you can not see you can not fight. It these skills are aquired, let it be aid that with great power comes great responsibility and being able to attack someone with out them knowing is great power. Use it for good before using it for evil. As long as teaching this is one of the better books I've read for those interested or moderately educated in such things.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money! Review: This must have been my most disappointing buy of these last few years. Greene's techniques are all focussed on using people's weaknesses, on creating confusion and being selective with the truth (lying). I find his approach negative and the book depressing. To create win-win situations and be a lasting leader, better read 'Getting to Yes' by Roger Fisher and William Ury. Follow Greene's advice and you might be in power but not admired and with very few friends...
Rating: Summary: Great examples, but hard to follow as laws. Review: This book gives some great examples of power plays and the people who used them. The only problem I had is that you can't necessarily follow the 48 laws. Too often one law will contradict another. Overall I found it highly interesting and informative though. Just remember to use the laws at different times in different situations.
Rating: Summary: The art of manipulation... Review: I liked this book because it is ruthless and eye-opening. You can apply the laws that are in the book to real life. This is a fascinating book. Some of the laws are common sense and others are more complex and extremely thought-provoking. It gives specific examples of the laws in action throughout history (Nietzsche, Machiavelli, etc.)
Rating: Summary: Use for the Defensive not just Offensive Review: I recently purchased The 48 Laws of Power. A useful book indeed! First of all though, one must remember that we only effectively learn from anything when we question what we read/see/hear. So, when I was reading 48 Laws of Power it wasn't so that I could swallow it whole. I asked, 'where could I use that in my life? what benefit would that have to me? why would I want to do that?!' It's about situational awareness; knowing whats going on around you and then using the good/bad techniques that will help us in that predicament. I draw a parallel to the book to How to Lose Friends and Infuriate People, which was an adaptation to Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People. If you read the former in a literal sense, you'd do just that - lose friends and infuriate people. It is reading between the lines that has all the benefit. 48 Laws of Power has helped me already, even after just a couple of weeks. It's not silver bullet, but it has helped me start the journey to effectively dealing with many of the powermongers around me. It was interesting to employ one of the techniques Law 4: "Always say less than necessary" - as I read it, I started thinking about someone I know who has _so_ employed this tactic on me! Initially quite frustrated, I decided to try it out myself. So, imagine my suprise when one of our following discussions I put him on the backfoot by giving him very little, but asking questions of him ! He told me stuff about how he felt about colleagues which I'm sure he later wished he hadn't. Its not so that I can use that against him. But it has shifted a balance in my favour, I didn't use it as an offensive technique - but as a defensive. 48 Laws of Power is a good read, with some good stories to illustrate the successful ways to employ these techniques, as well as examples of what happens when you do the opposite of these "laws". I will not employ some of the laws (I have serious problems with anyone implementing Law 7: "Get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit" but isn't it amazing - I bet we all can think of someone that does that!). However, knowing that all these laws do occur somewhere, with someone... means we can be more effective in combatting it when it happens.
Rating: Summary: Find out how to get your power back Review: I found this book to be very, very intriquing, and even more helpful in everyday work environments!
