Rating: Summary: My opinion of this book. Review: I decided to read 7 habits after being introduced to the concepts in a career planning course. Basically I will tell anyone who buys this book you are wasting your money... Why you ask? Very simply put- you can figure the concepts out on your own or just browse through the book and see that it is all common sense. My #1 disagreement with the author is the whole concept of cooperation in the workplace, etc.. That is great if you live in a fantasy world, but most likely you won't see it as reality...7 habits is a great conversation piece and will serve as a great coffee cup coaster... If this book works for you, more power to you.
Rating: Summary: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Review: If you have ever felt lost in the journey of life, you should turn to this book. This book will guide you back onto a path of your choice that would lead to success and happiness for life. Note that the book will not give you the path. But it will help you to choose the correct path for your life. This is an essential reading for anyone who wants to be "effective" in life.
Rating: Summary: Seek first to understand Review: In spite of wide acceptance as one of the best books ever written about how to improve the quality of life through developing habits that promote more effective interpersonal interactions, there do seem to be some reviewers who just don't get it! What I have noticed about the unfavorable reviews is that they tend to lack both substance and focus. If someone disagrees with something Covey has written, their disagreement would be significantly more meritorious if they would explain why they disagree instead of simply name calling. On the other hand, the type of poor communication exemplified by the name callers, certainly serves to validate the need for what Covey has to say. My experience has been that the Seven Habits really work. This book is required reading in a number of university courses and I continue to give copies of it to people whom I believe would profit from reading it. I sincerely believe that Covey's Seven Habits have significantly improved the lives of countless people and I applaud both his dedication to that end and his skill in communicating the very important things he has to say.
Rating: Summary: Self-Help for Dummies Review: I'm ordinarily wary of books like this that promise to transform your life within the span of 300 pages, but I figured 10 million readers (as the cover states) can't be wrong.I pray I'm never trapped in an elevator with any of them. After trudging through Covey's scary, cultish gobblygook, I have to wonder, "Are people so desperate for guidance that they actually believe this garbage." The book is about as insightful as my dog and about as deep as an episode of Jenny Jones. When a follower complains to Covey that his marriage is over, Covey recommends (over and over) that the man "love her." Wow, why didn't I think of that. Ever see "Being There", with Peter Sellers? I'm betting Covey and Sellers have a lot in common.
Rating: Summary: "Any one can change" says Covey. I could change Review: I started reading this book three years ago and ever since it has been next to my bed, like a bible. I always believe that books and casettes are my best friends. That way, I read this book whenever I feel like and often. I try to discuss what I read with others as Covey says and understand better. The book changed me from an egoistic guy to a normal person after reading 'Think Win-Win'. It made me live better and focussed after reading 'Begin with the end in mind'. It made me to differentiate Important things to Urgent things after reading 'First things First'. (I bought that book too to understand the habit better) Every habit affected (and affecting me) my life and I would recommend anyone who is interested in chaging themselves to buy this book. You live only once and so live better. This book is not a just another book to give a casual read - but to study, to understand and to live better.
Rating: Summary: How can such a great book be so bad on audio Review: Read this book, it is great. But do not buy the audio version. Between the trite church-like music and the gushing adoration of the narrarator to Mr Covey, this CD is unlistenable.
Rating: Summary: Patronising drivel Review: What can I say about this book that has not already been vociferouslysaid? Pure and utter drivel, insincere, self-satisfied, uselessdrivel. ( ) END
Rating: Summary: Seven Habits of Highly Wealthy Bored Yuppies Only Review: Since the book has been a bestseller for years and years, I decided to read it. Basically, it didn't tell me anything I didn't know already, and most of what it told I couldn't use. I don't have the time (nor small enough handwriting) to make out a complicated spreadsheet concerning my activities and goals everyday. This book is about 90 percent geared toward people who own their own companies. Most of the time it talks about how a person can make his/her workplace better. Though I agree with his solutions, the problem is that if you aren't running the show where you work, you generally have very little input about how things get done. I like my job very much and get along with my supervisors, but as a rule they do not appreciate suggestions on how they should do things. Their attitude is "I'm the boss, and you do as I say, regardless of whether you like it or not." Also I didn't like the fact that he decided to put people into catagories, and basically saying that if you're not focused on 'principles' and don't act a certain way all the time, there is something wrong with you. Nobody I know fits exactly into those stereotypes. I know some people who are very religious, and others who love to socialize, etc. but they don't act the way he describes. Also, he never exactly spelled out what the 'principles' were in any detail. If you have a lot of money, time, and are in a high position in some sort of corporation, this book might be for you. If you're just an ordinary person, like me, I'd recommend you skip it.
Rating: Summary: 7 Habits, Zero Insights Review: Most overrated book of the decade. Surely it is merely the cool title that inspires people to buy this collection of obvious observations and feel-good self-improvement theoretical jargon. Anybody that actually finds the ideas in this book to be original is probably too dense to ever be an 'effective' person themselves.
