Rating: Summary: Powerful material Review: The key to success in any area of endeavor is appied knowledge. In this excellent book, Mr. Covey provides the knowledge, it's up to you to provide the action. While it may appear to be common sense, common sense is not necessarily common knowledge.I highly endorse this book. Also suggest Direct from Dell by Michael Dell...another exceptional book by a exceptional man.Great reading. Great books.
Rating: Summary: Practical Wisdom Review: Books similar to the seven habits I typical find to be useless. If we can't learn how to live by following the examples of others or reading great literture, then why attempt to learn from a self-help book. The seven habits is much more then mere self help. In clear terms Covey outlines the make up of a successful person. This is not didactic gibberish, but practical wisdom that many should heed. Definitely the best of its kind.
Rating: Summary: Isn't it all just common sense? Review: I am amazed and how "helpful" people find this book. The only thing worse than this text is the 3 day course that accompanies it if you are subjected to such evils by your employer. My advise is take the time that it takes to read this book and "sharpen your saw" the old-fashioned way... live a little! I'm sorry that I had to give this book one star... zero stars was not an option.
Rating: Summary: A classic in self-help Review: Covey doesn't go for quick fixes. There's no "place ads in the classified section of major newspapers to become rich" here. For the reader who will internalize Covey's words, do the exercises, and answer the questions, both the source of frustration and failure and the path to overcoming and peace are presented. OK. It's not a perfect book -- Covey can be preachy or overly simplistic -- but it's close. For the past few years, I have frequently referred to this book; and I always recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: I am not what you would call a regular reader of motivational material (being highly self-motivated myself), but I found this audio book interesting and thought provoking. Stephen Covey does a good job reading his voice is crisp and clear even in the noisy environments of a car. Covey breaks out the seven most effective habits used by successful people and makes them easy to understand and incorporate into your own life. 2hr 30min. Worth listening to.
Rating: Summary: Stephen Covey Is A Great Paradigm Teacher Review: I like Stephen Covey because he changed some of my paradigms. However I doubt if the seven habits are going to be the center of my focus. I would rather focus on Tony Robbins' teachings. They seem more effective.
Rating: Summary: Uninspiring Review: I found some of the "habits" to be either obvious or outdated. A good read, but not the best.
Rating: Summary: An excellent medium for reviewing the clutter in your life Review: This book is not about organizing. It's about prioritizing, learning to think with new perspectives, and leaving out junk without guilt. I took the 7 Habits class, and then read the book. The rules, or habits, are not innate. It's something we cultivate as intelligent beings, so we work smarter, not harder. I try to implement them in my daily life as much as I can, :) and it helped immensely. Love, Peace, Light, and Laughter
Rating: Summary: Stephen Covey's 7 Habits an Old Friend Even After 10 Years Review: There is no question that Stephen Covey's book, THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE:POWERFUL LESSONS IN PERSONAL CHANGE, has been one of the more important books about how to personally achieve excellence--millions of copies have been sold. His ability to collect the wisdom of the ages and then organize and articulate it in a way that makes sense to those of us who are less skilled is truly inspiring. I read the book when it first came out ten years ago and have frequently revisited it over the years. It has been an "old friend" providing a context for my understanding a variety of "paradigm shifts" in both my professional and personal life. It has also been used, and is still used, in my company as a leadership development tool. I recently re-read it and can again highly recommend it. If you like this book, you might also like to read another fairly recent book that I have found to be very powerful. The title of the book is WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK by Ariel and Shya Kane. Whereas Mr. Covey seems to focus on incremental, personal change and working on the development of new "habits"-a "change model"-the Kanes focus on "awareness" (in an anthropological sense) of "what is"--of "one's own behaviors" and of the "behaviors of others"--as a vehicle for personal transformation, greater achievment and personal satisfaction--a "transformation model" vs a "change model". Interesting contrast in approach--I think you'll like it.
Rating: Summary: An extremely profound and insightful book Review: I cannot recommend this book enough. Stephen Covey's book about the seven habits is profound, chock-full of knowledge and insight about the human mind and spirit, and a treasure of information in all areas of life. I find personally that it has given me a wealth of information about myself, and several areas where I've gone wrong, and it has given me a profound insight into what life constitutes, and has revived a sense of gratitude for life in me, such as I never had before. And I strongly believe it will not only have flooded my mind with understanding, but also, that years from now I can look back and see the impact it had on my life. Thanks for a great book.
