Rating: Summary: Fabulous book that explains how to take control of life Review: Most books that broach aspects of the 7-habits roadmap are written in psychological gibberish and are not practical. This easy to read book explains and illustrates what you need to do to make your life successful, helps you to let go of hoping things will happen, and shows you how to become highly effective at MAKING them happen. The 7 habits deal with your own private victory first and then your victory in getting along with others. The information is sensible and is helpful for anyone who is open to personal growth. I totally recommend this book. Another book recommended by Dr. Covey I wholeheartedly recommend is Optimal Thinking-How To Be Your Best Self to learn how to become emotionally self-reliant, supremely competent and make the MOST of any situation.
Rating: Summary: Para-dime is still 20 cents Review: I worry for the pop culture. Its members still seem to think that speaking the incomprehensible MUST indicate deep meaning and--GAK---paradigm shift.A lot of that tendency started decades ago with the likes of Norman Vincent Peale and others. Covey's made a veritable cottage industry of it. How about X Habits of Successful Authors Who Don't Say Anything? Gibberish the lot of it. I tried to read this all the way through. But it echoes other New Age gurus like Matthew Fox, a New Age Christian babbler; lots of words indicating not a thing. One of my favorite authors, Wendy Kaminer, described Covey appropriately years ago as having a great talent at saying nothing inspiringly. Don't waste your time with any of these "habits" tracts.
Rating: Summary: Win. win. Review: Covey's Win/win philosophy of sharing success with others to get to the top rather than stomping on others toes is not only an ethical approach, but it makes darned good sense. Also, I recommend the book, The Little Guide To Happiness. Someone else mentioned it, and I agree. Though, it's more of a personal self help than business.
Rating: Summary: Forming good habits Review: I hadn't read this book until now despite it being out for so long and it's great! I learned a lot and the book had some great strategies for improving my habits, which I'm seeking in terms of reaching all of my goals--personally and professionally. I also purchased the Emotional Intelligence Quickbook recommended on this page. I recommend this book as well. It was very helpful in showing me how the emotional side of life influences my success. It also came with a free test of my emotional intelligence which was neat and taught me a lot.
Rating: Summary: Enrich Your Life! Review: I believe that The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People will have a profound affect on anyone who reads, internalizes and applies the principles taught by Dr. Covey. I know that this great book has already had a profound impact on my life. Thank you Dr. Covey.
Rating: Summary: Restores character to our culture. Review: Stephen Covey has written an excellent book which should be read by everyone. This great work restores character, or at least underscores the need for character ethic in our society. Must reading for all value driven people.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books that I have ever read Review: Without a doubt, The 7 Habits of Effective People is one of the greatest books of all time in terms of content. The fact that it has remained a best seller for all these years is a bonus. Great book deserving of best seller status. In the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey presents a holistic, integrated, principle-centered approach for solving personal and professional problems. Filled with penetrating insights and pointed anecdotes, in this outstanding work, Covey reveals a step by step pathway for living with fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity---principles that give us the security to adapt change, and the wisdom and power to take advantage of the opportunities that change creates. It has been said that fundamentals are the key to success. That being the case, Stephen Covey is the master of fundamentals and The Seven Habits is 350 pages filled with fundamentals. I found a quote by Aristotle particularly interesting: "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit." I hghly recommend this book, but more importantly, I highlyr ecommend that you use this book and follow the advice by Dr. Covey. Create powerful habits. Create habits that lead to success and you will become a success. Covey also points out that are various ways of becoming effective. A thief can repeat habits of theft and become an excellent thief---therefore becoming a highly effective thief, but is that a worhwhile goal or accomplishment? Covey also covers values. Finding a worthwhile cause. As the saying goes; "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." Not only will Coey's book show you how to become effective, highly effective, but it will also show you how to find the proper opportunities. The Seven Habits of Highly Efeective People first came out in the early 1990's and is still a best selling book. I am glad to see that people can appreaciate a book of quality. Another book worth reading is The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren which should be read right along with this one. These two books can substantially change your life for the better.
Rating: Summary: A hot book for over 13 years now Review: I first heard of this great book back in 1991. Since that time, I have read and reread it a whole bunch of times. I have had to buy several copies. My first one fell apart. Second one was all dog eared. Third copy I lost. So now I am on my fifth copy. This bookis unlike any other personal development book you will ever read. Covey's philosophy is all about "Win-Win" and total effectiveness. When I read the 1 star reviews, I have to chuckle and wonder what their lives must be like. I wonder what they read, or even if they read. I wonder how they spend their time (playing pc games like Grand Auto Theft and watching movies like Motel Hell no doubt) I wonder what they do for a living? When people attack very credible authors like Stephen Covey, I have to wonder just how low they can go and just what goes into their minds? If you ask me, these people need this book more than anybody. 7 Habits is all about communication. It is from the Dale Carnegie concept only adjusted for the times. It will show you how to improve your personal and business relationships. How to become a better parent, spouse, employee or employer. Needles to say, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I went through 4 copies. And if something happens to my 4th copy, I will get a fifth. Great book from a great man. Also recommend Super Self another super book about effectiveness.
Rating: Summary: Super strategies for personal & professional growth Review: Stephen Covey's 7 Habits certaintly does go beyond the "rah-rah" hype type of books that are out there. Stephen Coven has written an outstanding, super book that provides super strategies for both personal and professional growth. Another book that you will benefit from is Super Self by Charles J. Givens. This book is one of the most overlooked yet most powerful books available. Read 7 Habits and Super Self and you will get super results.
Rating: Summary: 7 Habits for a Highly Effective Life Review: This outstanding book begins with a personal vision, and the importance of paradigm shifts, as we awaken to non-judgmental views about others in order to better understand them. We alone are the creators of our lives, and Stephen Covey does a remarkable job in explaining the importance of being proactive, and thinking with a win/win attitude that will do FAR better than a view of "competition." "Thinking with the end in mind" helps you to set your sights on a goal and commit to that goal, while being flexible and open to the possibilities around you. A vital component of this great book is the importance of having a personal mission statement. "The way you spend your time is a result of the way you see your time and the way you really see your priorities." You have to determine what you value, and how you are ethically going to "live the program" you have set for yourself. If all human beings "seek first to understand, then to be understood" our world would have much more compassion, and agreeable resolutions. It all starts with you, as a proactive individual. Synergistic communication is vital to being open to new possibilities and taking in the views of others as equally as you share your views. Your spiritual core and value system is the foundation upon which you build your life and interact with others. When you have a solid spiritual foundation, and daily feed and nurture yourself with positive reading, meditation, contemplation, you are renewed, and are thus far more effective in your life. As you "sharpen the saw" in your life you are living with integrity, self security based upon a solid sense of self, and you sense of personal worth. This book is a goldmine to be read and re-read many times to refresh the many aspects of how you can live a life by being the example, while showing care and compassion to others. I think this book should be required reading in all schools. It would genuinely help to make our world a much better place, one person at a time.
