Summary: Inspiring
Review: I read this book after hearing much about it & combing through customer reviews on this site. The book was like having a personal trainer available at all times to help you see the big picture and make a difference in your professional life. I was impressed with the organization of the book and its ability to inspire a reader to become more effective all around.

Summary: A Highly Effective Book
Review: I really enjoyed Stephen Covey's book, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". He provided many basic, obvious points but presented them in a way in which they are truly useful in everyday life. The seven habits simply make sense. Anyone can achieve all these habits. I never imagined the idea of interdependence. Covey not only makes interdependence a desired goal, but he makes it very obtainable. I believe that the diagrams that Covey included in his book also helps to visually see your own progress as you move along with the books. Through this book, I have become more self-aware of my own capabilities and realized my own self potential. I know what it means to be responsible for my own life. I have also learned that I need to know where I am going so I can understand where I am right now and where I need to go to get to my goal. I have learned that I must be able to keep commitments to myself otherwise I would not be able to manage my own being. After I graduate from college and begin my own career, because of this book, I know the meaning and importance of a win/win situation. I know, now, that once I am able to put my needs and my company's needs together I should always find a win/win situation. Because of this book, I need to become an effective listener. I need to take the time to know what a person is really saying. I have learned through this book that I need to open my mind to new possibilities. I should never disregard anything new that may be presented. Creativity is always welcomed! Most of all, though, I have learned that nothing would be possible if I don't take care of myself first. So, thank you, Mr. Covey, for opening my mind to the ideas this books presents and making me an effective person.

Summary: One of the top three books ever
Review: There are three books I read in my life that I would say made an impact. They are the books, How To Win Friends And Influence People, The Little Guide To Happiness, and this book, The Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People. All best sellers, and all deserving to be. If you haven't read them yet then read them. If you have a teen who you wish to mold then I suggest books like these.

Summary: If you buy only one self-help book, buy this one
Review: Easily the best self-help book on personal goalsetting and time-management. This book changed my life by inspiring me to make some drastic changes in it. Having made them, I feel a lot better with myself. And so can you. If, that is, you manage to read around Coveys somewhat tacky style, because he is a true salesman of ideas and thus prone to overselling. Talking about overselling: buy this book, buy the tape of it, heck, even buy the dayplanner... but don't buy their software. I did, and lived to regret it. It's horrible!

Summary: Important Thinking
Review: This book is a long-time favorite because it lays down important considerations for daily interaction, and prompts this quote:

"Learn from everyone, copy no one."
- Don Shula

Written in 1989, perhaps today it would be presented in a more strategic style, but type out the 7 Habits for your daily planner.

Summary: Career orientated brainwasher - disorganised
Review: Read the book, but found it hard to read. Many better self help book exists, such as "think and grow rich", or rich dad books, or "how to win friends and influence people"

This book is soley aimed at career minded people and will not help you get rich in the long run..Hard to grasp concepts, that appear wishy washy, not thought through, poorly presented in a disorganised fashion. Feels like brainwashing...

I doubt that highly effective people would read this book.

Summary: Do you want to win at the game of life?
Review: Then read this book. How much effort do we put into learning how to play sport, learning the highly detailed education of a degree, socialising with friends? But do we really learn how to win at the game of life? This book is a manual of how to win at the game of life. It has tried and tested principles that are as sure as gravity itself. One of the distinguishing features of the book is the diagrams that brilliantly illustrate the concepts covey puts forward. A MUST READ for all those that are serious about life.

Summary: A good book, but not the tape
Review: -THIS REVIEW REFERS TO THE AUDIOTAPE VERSION RELEASED WITH A WHITE COVER - (I don't know why Amazon keeps lumping it in with the reviews of the unabridged book)

The 7 Habits come very highly recommended. I suppose the book should still be recommended, but I can not say the same for this audio tape. I was expecting to hear the author (or someone) read the book. Instead, I heard a taped seminar delivered in a conference room.

The material was not organized in an effective way for a listener who is not already familiar with the material. As a case in point, I remember one spot early in the tapes where Covey is talking about the order of habits 4, 5 and 6 and says "you can clearly see that they have to occur after" but the tape had not yet named the habits in question. I could not "clearly see" anything. I don't know if this was a result of poor editing or if this was a consequence of taping a seminar. To someone who already read the book or who at least had a chart visible in the conference room, the presentation might have made more sense. As audio only, it was very frustrating.

This audiotape version also appears to be missing some content. There were several topics that I expected to hear more about which never turned up on the tape.

The sound quality of the tape was unsatisfactory. As I said, this tape appeared to be a live recording of a seminar delivered by the author. At times, it was very difficult to hear what Covey was saying. The author is an accomplished speaker, but the recording quality did not do him justice.

All of that said, after listening to the entire set of tapes I do understand the basics of the 7 Habits and how they are applied. I agree strongly with Covey that good habits are built. And these are some good habits to get into. The Habits themselves are clear and well described. I can see times in my life when I have been successful (usually times when I have consciously or unconsciously applied them) and times when I have been unsuccessful (usually times when I failed to apply one or more). Having a framework for good habits will help me to be more consistent in applying and keeping to them.

My complaint is not with the content but with the presentation on this particular recording. I suppose if you are looking for a refresher or a deeper understanding of the 7 Habits, this tape would be a good use of your time. For a first-time listener, I can not recommend it. Read the book or find a different tape that is "truer" to the book.

Summary: Tedious
Review: Tedious, overcomplicated book that could and should have been cut in half. Not very useful and there are 100 other books out there much more useful.
