Review: As a lighthouse enthusiast, I find many recent lighthouse books lacking in what I would call useful information for someone who would actually like to visit them. This book, however, provides all necessary information for the visitor. Many times before I have visited a lighthouse, not knowing that there was another close by. It won't happen again, as this book is complete in its' listings. Especially appreciated is its check list/dating feature. From one lighthouse enthusiast to any others, I highly recommend it.

Review: I have a few books on lighthouses but this one is amazing. The imformation on each lighthouse giving you the location and a place to check mark it and the date you saw it. I am looking forward to using it on my trip to the lakes in October. Thank you for helping me get the best imformation for my trip.

Review: I take this book with me every time we go Great Lakes lighthouse "hopping". It is loaded with helpful information and I wouldn't consider leaving home without it when on a Lighthouse trek!

Review: Over 300 lights pictured, historical data, descriptions, and directions to visit if applicable. Also interesting stories about the lights and the Great Lakes are sprinkled throughout the book. A must for anyone interested in lighthouses.

Summary: Up-close views of remote Great Lakes lightstations
Review: They are called "lakes", but they are really inland seas, alternately turbulent and serene. Counting both American and Canadian sites, there are approximately 345 lights of historic and/or photographic interest remaining on the Great Lakes. As of this writing I have personally visited 333 of these sites, many so remote that knowledge of their existence is not common even by people residing in this region and thus, they are seldom seen in photos...especially good, clean up-close views under fair weather conditions...which is what I strive for and which usually necessitates several visits to some sites as the Great Lakes, beautiful as they are, have never been known for their good weather. All of these lights (plus many others that no longer exist) were established because they were NECESSARY aids to navigation and played an important role as such in augmenting the safety of men and ships at a time when waterborne transportation was the only commercially viable mode of transportation available. Most of these sites remain lighted today, some are inactive, but all are important links to the maritime heritage of the Great Lakes. Our book is meant to be a portable, comprehensive guide for the interested traveller. To keep the price of the book down, my color photos were reduced in size and reproduced in black and white. But in this format the greatest number of readers will come to appreciate how many lighthouses still exist on the Great Lakes and the many hazards to shipping that navigators still have to contend with here.
