Summary: A Must Have For the Serious Actor
Review: As Program Coordinator for the Entertainment Studies department of an adult education school, and as a former actress, I have seen a lot of books that purport to give insight or guidance to the actor, but few that actually deliver any worthwhile or new information. I only wish this book had existed when I was acting! How many times the usual anxiety of auditioning was compounded by having not a clue who I was meeting, which person in the room was the casting director, what they liked, what they didn't-- and what a godsend this book would have been at those times! How much more comfortable I could have been if I had known how much casting

Review: I enjoy reading this book. It is useful for when you are submitting or auditioning for these casting directors since after reading the book, you know what they want. Or do you? I find people changing their minds very frequently and we as human beings are always changing. What is printed on the book, may no longer be true after a few years. However, it is interesting to read just what each person thinks an actor is or should do during auditions. I think as a whole, the book is useful because it provides some universal principles that we can all treasure and use in every aspect of our lives.

Summary: Conversations with over 100 Casting Directors
Review: Karen Kondazian has compiled inside information from talking to over 100 of the premier casting directors in film, television, commercials and theatre from Los Angeles to New York. Kondazian offers intimate profiles with over 100 casting directors and industry professionals. Casting directors speak on the record to reflect and convey expert advice on how to get in the door to prepare effectively for readings. Each interview contains a picture, filmography and personal profile. Find out from Casting Directors what's hot and what's not. Karen Kondazian is a feature writer for Back Stage West/Drama-Logue. Her column, The Actor's Way, is read by tens of thousands every week. Ms. Kondazian lives in Los Angeles.

"Casting is critical. There were 92 speaking roles in TITANIC and it's through casting that they all seem so unique and have a past. What I wound up selecting out of all the various possibilities, were people who had something inherently interesting about them which gives you an illusion of back-story." -James Cameron

Summary: The Bible on Casting Directors
Review: Karen Kondazian's book contains invaluable interviews with many of the entertainment industry's top casting directors. As a producer and actor, it has helped me tremendously when going in to interview with various people included in her book. Because she obviously gets these people to express themselves with great candor, it really gives you insight to them as people and you get a real sense of them as human beings and as professionals. There is great advice for actors from all of them and, as a producer, you can tell if you'd be interested in working with them by their style and what their approach is. And, of course, it is always important for everyone in the business to know who has cast what and what they are currently casting. This book is a wealth of information and it is entertaining and fascinating and is different than the rest of the info. books out there. It's human and special - a must for everyone who needs to be in contact with casting directors! (The interview with Richard Dreyfuss is extra special, too!)

Summary: WONDERFUL!
Review: LOVED IT! This is the book I've been looking for! I've been in the industry as a successful actress for 20 years and have always wanted to know first hand what the casting directors think and want. This book also includes valuable interviews from two top directors: James Cameron & John Woo.

Summary: COULD OF BEEN SO MUCH BETTER
Review: The idea behind this book was great. The idea of being abel to see the casting Director was very smart. The authors seemed to leave out alot of the major casting directors that are casting todays top Commercials-Film and Television. Yes, there are several who are a name in the industry that are in the book. Since the authors left out many great people they should now write BOOK 2 and put in more of the Casting Directors That are shaping todays projects and should be noted. Nice attempt though. Those that are in the book do have great insight and recomendations/suggestions for the actor. Not a should have or a must buy unless you have extra money to burn.I would like to mention a great book I did read "Acting is Everything" it is very helpfull.

Summary: Hear it directly from the casting directors themselves
Review: The role of a casting director is often misunderstood and actors are too often unaware of the pitfalls of auditions. This book is a must-have to help you find your way through. With direct interveiws with over 100 casting directors (mainly LA-based film/TV CDs, but some NY ones also) it gives you direct feedback on what casting directors like to see and don't.

One of the best advantages of this book is that you can see what preferences vary among casting directors...and what preferences are universal in the industry. This is an extremely valuable took and one I think should be in everyone's library!
