Summary: Are you a chart junkie?
Review: A fantastic little idea from the master of the Billboard charts, Joel Whitburn. I became interested in this book because I looked to revamp my 80's music collection (you know, lost in vinyl), and I had top 40 lists, but as we all know, all great songs DON'T make the top 40! Using this book spurred lots of great memories and gave me a great base to go to Napster and get back some of the great songs of my youth. If you're looking for stories, don't buy it, but if you want a visit down memory lane, and need some titles to get your Lost Hits of the 80's collection started, then this is the book for you!

Summary: Make a list and check it twice...
Review: Billboard, long the Bible of pop music opens the doors to their kingdom of charts. It's all here folks. The hits rise and fall faster than the stock exchange. You'll see great songs that barely made the top 100, and sappy tunes that were pushed up the charts by heavy pushes by the record companies. Find out for yourself how many songs never made it past the #2 position because they had the misfortune of charting at the same time as "One Sweet Day." The musical history of the 90's shows the path pop music into the new millennium. (mlk)

Summary: For chart enthusiasts
Review: I have followed the Billboard charts since 1980 and I find this collection of 1990's Hot 100 charts essential.

Summary: The Ultimate Chart History Book
Review: Sure, there are lots of books out there with opinions of what songs of the past were the best. Even some books ranking the songs using many different methods. But the ultimate reflection of the popularity of a song is how well it performed on the Billboard Charts. And this book shows every Hot 100 chart from Billboard that was published during the '70's.....which I believe to be the best decade ever for popular music. There is nothing like looking at these charts and remembering what it was like in the '70's to listen to radio, and to follow the progress of your favorite records as they climbed the charts. If you listened to Casey Kasem every week, you heard the Top-40. These charts give you a chance to not only re-live those times, but also to see how your favorite songs performed both before and after they appeared in the Top-40. Every Billboard Hot 100 chart of the '70's duplicated at about 70% of it's original size. It is amazing to look back at times such as when music from Saturday Night Fever dominated Billboard charts. You can almost see John Travolta dancing....almost hear the Bee Gees singing. And then there are the moments when you discover a song on a chart that you had forgotten ever even existed! I could go on and on, but I need to get back to the book....it is hard to stay away from it. If you are a Seventies music fan, I guarantee that this book will not disappoint you. It is worth evey penny.

Summary: Excellent research book for fans of 90's music
Review: This book (along with the 80's companion) is super!!! You can now track your most favorite songs over the decade from Mariah Carey to Boyz II Men!!! One Hit wonders are in full in this book, but the main stays like Madonna, Micheal, and Prince are there, too. It's just a great book!!!

Summary: I Can't Do Without These "Billboard Hot 100" Books
Review: This book is great. I constantly refer to this book while doing research on The Rolling Stones chart positions in the Seventies. Of course it can be used for just general research, or for a particular artist. It tracks the Top 100 singles and how they charted week by week. You see how each song climbs to its peak position and then declines off the charts. It was great looking at the charts during a decade when I remember these songs being big hits and hearing them on the radio for the first time. I can't believe it's been almost 30 years since atists like Paul McCartney & Wings and Elton John first came on the scene. I highly recommend all the other "Billboard Hot 100" books from this series.

Summary: THE BEST SOURCE OF THE HOT 100
Review: What better way to receive chart history of the hot 100, then looking at the real thing? I found the 90's the most interesting decade because the chart had some changes that effected the chart dramatically, such as: the introduction of Neilson Soundscan, which pinpointed the exact nuber of radio plays and sales; and the most dramtic effect, the inclusion of airplay only songs. The 90's also showed us all of the 9 songs that debuted at #1 from Michael Jacksons "You Are Not Alone"(1995) to Lauryn Hills' "Doo Wop (That Thing)"(1998). The 90's also showed us the longest running #1 of all time: "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey & Boys II Men (16 Weeks). I was very impressed on how each page is an actual copy of the chart taken directly from the magazine, because I was expecting just a list. So, whether you want to use this book to look at songs/artists that you have completely forgotten about or that you love and want to know all of their chart info in the 90's, or you just love billboard charts in general, this is a really satisfying and quality book. I definetely reccomend it.
