Review: Manufacturers have developed valves to meet the needs of wide range of industrial applications. Engineers can select an existing valve for almost any application they need. The goal of this book is provide one source of information for individuals who select valves.

The first section of the book discusses the engineering fundamental of valve types and their construction. The remaining chapters divide valves into four major categories: manual valves, check valves, pressure relief valves, and rupture discs. The chapters on relief valves and rupture discs have been rewritten and expanded for this edition. Within these chapters individual types of valves are discussed in detail. Figures showing the construction details are provided for most types of valves. A detailed table of contents supplements the short index. Appendices include ASME Safety Valve Rules, Properties of Fluids, and Standards Pertaining to Valves (primarily American and British). A short list of reference is included.

This book is intended to be a practical reference for people involved in the selection of valves for industrial applications. Review: This book was very instrumental in the selection of a valve for the use in a special application. The mechanics involved in each of the valve applicability are well explained. It is also helpful in pressure drop calculations when the use of the valve at a specific part of a process is necessary. It provides a wide range of valve types and has well illustrative figures for understanding the way the valve operates. It also has good explanation for the packing materials used in the different type of valves. It is good for a novice and professional alike.
