Summary: Save Your Money --- Don't Buy This
Review: I bought a paperback version of this textbook a few years ago. There were many printing and typo errors (the top few lines on many pages were lost),and the quality of explanations in the textbook is disappointing for a group of authors from a supposedly distinguished university. Wanted to sell the book to recoup my loss but there was no market for it. Doesn't that speak volumes about this book?

Summary: OK
Review: I used this book as supplementary material for review during a graduate course in marine hydrodynamics. I liked that it was compact and cheaper. But it's not really comprehensive enough for an introductory class.

Summary: Fluid mechanics for mathematicians
Review: I would not recommend this book for any introductory fluid mechanics course because there are a lot of derivation steps as well as background information assumed by the author.

This is more of a mathematical approach to fluid mechanics as opposed to the more classical engineering approach.

Summary: Terrible Fluids Book
Review: This book was used in my fluids class and was no help at all. The explanations are unclear and confusing, and there are very few examples. This book does not make a good class text or reference text. Do not buy this book. If you are an undergrad then buy Fluid Mechanics by Young et al. or Crowe et al., or if you want more buy Viscous Fluid Flow by White.

Summary: hard to understand, poor derivations
Review: We used this book for a senior-level fluids course in engineering physics.

The authors derivations are hard to follow for an introductory textbook. He sometimes skips so much math that it takes several lines of work to see how each step follows the next. The writing style is also very unclear.

We also had handouts from Fluid Mechanics by LD Landau. 2nd Ed. ISBN: 0750627670 In some topics, it would cover about 40 pages of this book in 4 or 5 pages of condensed text. However, I found it to be easier to follow since the math was more rigorous and the writing clearer.
