Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Dr. Gilman's book simplifies the basics of the neuro exam.
Review: Dr. Gilman has a rare ability among neurologists, he is able to distill the most usefull aspects of a topic, leving behind the jargon. This is evident in the numerous review articles he has published geared towards generalists as well as specialists. His relatile new book "Clinical Examination of the Nervous System" delivers his trademark style such that beginners to the field of neurology are able to understand the fundamentals. The book goes into some depth concerning the different diseases which affect the nervous system, but does not get boged down in disease mechanisms. Instead it concentrates on developing examination technique, especially when it comes down to consistency and reproducibility. The book is geared more towards those training in neurology, especially residents, although practicing neurologists may find it a usefull reference. Having read a few books about neurologic examination as a part of my residency training, I have found Dr. Gilman's book superior and have highly recommended it to my coleagues.
