Summary: It's The Book for revision for the USMLE Step 2
Review: Concise with high-yield info !! This the best description I could think of ! It might e a good idea if you read it 1 or 2 weeks before the exam.

- It provides information that has appeared on recent adminstrations of USMLE Step 2. It tells you what the next step in managing a patient, which is stressed in the Step 2. Recognition of a diseae is crucial for solving USMLE (and for future quick diagnosis especially in the ER).
This author gives you useful hints to solve common questions e.g. he tells us that a presentation may be normal (especially in Peds or Psychiatry) and need no treatment!

- The contents include: Introduction, Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular medicine, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinloy, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Hematology, Oncology, Infectious disease, Dermatology, Neurology, Immunology, Genetics, Geriatrics, Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Psychiatry, Gynecology, General surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic surgery, Neurosurgery, ENT surgery, Vascular surgery, Urology, ER, Peds, Pharmacology, Radiology, Laboratory medicine, Ethics, Photos, Signs, symptoms, and syndromes, Abbreviations, and Index.

- One of the things I liked about this book is that the author tells you possible scenarios and how to answer each one. For example, if you encounter a question about a patient who gets pneumonia after cave exploring or exposure to bird droppings in Ohio and Mississipi River valleys, then think of Histoplasma capsulatum. This question came in my exam, but I didn't know the answer. I knew it later after reading this book !

- It has many pictures, diagrams, and tables.

- This book comes in 272 pages , in its 2nd edition (2002),a and is published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishers (great company !). It's surprising to know that the author was an intern in Internal Medicine when he wrote this book !

Buy this book and I'm sure you will pass the any exam with flying colors!

Summary: Spectacular
Review: I am a terrible studier with no attention span whatsoever, yet with the help of this book I went up 25 from my step 1. Here's what I did: I read this book, reread the blueprints books that I had read anyway over the course of third year, did most of the questions in the NMS book, then reread this. Whenever anything important-sounding came up, especially in the questions from the NMS book, I would write it into the margins of crush the boards. It took a fair amount of time, but certainly no more (probably a good deal less) than I spent on step 1. It was also far less painful studying for step 2 than for step 1.

The book is a nearly flawless summary of important points. It skips the basics (e.g. assumes you already know what a QRS complex is) and focuses on only the highest of the high yield. In fact, I'd bet that you could beat the mean just by reading this book alone.

One minor point, I ran out of time and did not review the "pictures" section at the end of the book (that's one problem with the book. It has very few pictures, and usually just suggests that you "know how to recognize" a given finding). As it turned out, there was not a single picture on my test. Maybe 4 or 5 films, but they were easy to identify. So it's not an issue.

Summary: Waste of time, don't bother with this book
Review: I bought this book and reviewed it about three times now. It contains a lot of errors and it is not complete. And the index is terrible, if you try to look up something chances are you won't find it there. It is a good book if you just want to get the basic idea and read it for fun. But, I would not recommend this book for students preparing for USMLE Step 2.

Summary: Horrible layout of the very basics
Review: I ordered this book from Amazon because I had heard so much good stuff about it. I just finished packing it up to send it back. After flipping through it, I was amazed at how basic this book is. No treatment, or diff. dx, or anything after the topics. The book honestly FEELS AND LOOKS LIKE IT WAS PRINTED ON A PHOTO COPIER, not a press! Horrible layout and quality (esp. the pictures). This book is only worth your time, if nothing else is available.

Summary: Wonderful review guide
Review: I purchased this book per the recommendations that I read here. I was very pleased with the book and found it to be a helpful review book for step 2. I read the sections I had trouble with more than once. The book is organized in a very enjoyable way so that studying is quite painless. I did well on the exam thanks to reading this in the 2 weeks before the exam.

Summary: Waste of time, don't bother with this book
Review: I read this book in the 4 days before I took step II and CRUSHED the test --> 260. My humble advice to M4s out there: take step two BEFORE the match in the spring before you lose motivation and use this book ONLY. Trust me, it is enough review and it is uncanny how many questions came straight from these pages.

Summary: Very good review - gets most of what you need...
Review: This is a well-written text with valuable, pertinent sections. Brochert includes a good balance of high-yield sections + explanations, which allows you to avoid repetitively memorizing facts. If you couple this with QBank, and then add a book or two on your weaker sections, I think you'll do well. Cons? I thought the surgery section was a bit lacking, as you'll see a number of abdominal complaints on the Boards that are glossed over in this book. But the stronger sections more than make up for it. Highly recommended.. if you can read it 312 times back-to-back like some of these speed-readers, good for you. If you're like everyone else, having a good knowledge of the info inside will go a long way. Good luck.

Summary: Excellent for the last few weeks before taking the test
Review: This is by no means a comprehensive review book but it's an excellent source of concise, high-yield info that's most effective when read several times shortly before the exam day. It contains so much of the material covered in the actual test and was definitely a factor in my (rather good :)) final score. Buy this, buy this, buy this!!!

Summary: Expensive Toilet paper, read 10 min before exam
Review: This, along with the other books by Adam Brochert are very misleading and very low yield. Just reading this wont help you
answer very long, tricky usmle questions. You need to get into the hard stuff : Harrisons Pretest for INternal Medicine is perfect for step 2 as well as Frontrunners Q&A.

The problem with most question sources is that they only require you to identify 1 piece of information to correctly answer the question. On the boards, you have to collect Multiple data then make a determination ; plus, their are distractors that no other question bank has ( eg : Kaplan ). Ditch this easy stuff and press your intellect with the challenging things as that is what you will see on test day. I know, this isnt a question book, but it represents the simple minded thinking that lazy people look for when selecting sources. High Yield INt.Medicine is Superb because it has more clinical info than this book and it can be reviewed over fast.

Summary: Good outline/material. Too many errors
Review: While I agree with many posters that this book has just high-yield info and for that it should be applauded, it has way too many errors for my taste. I bought it based on many reviews that I have read, but I am on page 8 and have found an error or misleading oversimplification on every page thus far. For example on page 8 the author states that disulfiram inhibits alcohol dehydrogenase (it inhibits aldehyde dehydrogenase, the second enzyme in the metabolism of alcohol - which is important because aldehyde is what makes you sick). On page 7 the author implies that smoking is the biggest controllable risk factor to prevent heart-disease related deaths. Though I don't have a specific fact to refute that claim, it is likely that diabetes is a greater variable. Don't get me wrong, I like the book. However, the errors are incredibly distracting.
