Rating: Summary: SUPERB Review: Even considering that I am not a native english speaker, I found this book easier to understand than Guyton in spanish. Now that I teach physiology I use it to remember concepts at a glance, and to better explain concepts (a good image comes in handy sometimes). I also have encouraged my students to get it, as it does not only make it easier to understand physiology, but also is very helpful in improving comprehension of medical english, which is a must nowadays. (how about that for a new use for this book!!!!!!)
Rating: Summary: An deal text for a quick, but complete review of Physiology! Review: I have read the the 1st edition as a graduate student of Physiolgy. I found it then to be easy to read and accurate in its detailed descriptions and illustrations of the cellular and molecular mechanism that are integral to Physiology. Over a decade later, I had a chance to evaluate the 5th (English) edition. The authors and publishers remained true to their original objective, which was to produce a concise, well written and well illustrated pocket-size textbook of Medical Physiology. I have enjoyed what I had a chance to read of this edition and I highly recommend it to all students of Physiology.
Rating: Summary: An outstanding quick reference Review: I teach Physiology at University and this book is my first port of call in areas in which I am not an expert. It is the easiest way to jog my memory as the index is good, the text is concise and the figures add a lot to my understanding. The only trouble is that it is getting a little old, so although it is great for most of the basics, it lacks a bit of detail on signal transduction pathways etc

Rating: Summary: SUPERB: Refer to Ed Coxon's review Review: I would like to thank Agamemnon Despopoulos for this AWESOME physiology text. Wonderful color plates on the RHS with emphasis of loops annd their dynamic cyclic rhythms or processes (make for very good slides). Text of three varying sizes on the LHS moving deeper into every detail with reducing text size - HYPERTEXT in a book. WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME. NOT ONLY AN EXCELLENT PHYSIOLOGY TEXT BOOK BUT ALSO A MODEL TEXT FOR EFFICENT DATA / CONCEPT TRANSFER.
Rating: Summary: This is an example for other researchers Review: If you already now a little of physiology, and you don't want to lose it, or you have to prepare a clase this is what you nead. Great for students and professors.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful illustrations Review: This book is really not a book but a pictionary. The text not only falls short, but is actually full of false statements and wrong proofs. However, nobody buys it for the text, they buy it for the illustrations. If you have a real core textbook and Agamemnons color atlas next to you, you can't fail Physiology. And this make it worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best physiology handbook ever published Review: This pocket manual is an envaluable reference tool. All experimental physiologists, biochemists and pharmacologists should own a copy of this color atlas. It is extremely well illustrated, clear and simple, but at the same way complete and deep in summarizing every aspect of human physiology. I can not recall any other full size book that is comparable to is one for the huge amount of information, written and illustrated. More precisely, there is no equivalent to this book in any other branches of biomedical sciences. We hope that the booklet will be periodically updated, also to honor the memory of its main author and revisor, Professor A. Despopoulos.
Rating: Summary: state-of-the-art Review: What makes this book a state-of-the-art is not its content, but the manner in which it's presented. Each subject only occupies one page of text, & opposite is a page for illustrations. But it's not the illustrations that explains the text, but rather the text that explains the illustrations (a method created by Leonardo da Vinci). This not only helps in recalling of the subject, but also helps in sustaining an interest in it. An ingenious beautiful book.
