Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Surgery Resident Review
Review: This book is designed for surgical residents. Medical students should do well with a student oriented text and the little Surgical Recall.

Residents on the other hand will find this to be a useful review especially before the ABSITE.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: This is what your memory needs!
Review: This is one of the best investment in medical books that I have made. I am in 3rd year now and have accumulated heaps of COMPREHENSIVE books that I have only ever just flipped through. Since buying "Advanced Surgical Recall", I have used it every single time a topic pops up in my surgical term. It includes topics on General Surgery as well as Surgical Specialties, plus other useful background information. There is also some anatomy, with occasional drawings to emphasize. Admittedly, some of the questions are too advanced for me at this stage (I also love my "Surgical Recall" but that's another story, by the way the 2 books are complementary and in no way exclude the usefulness of the other), but the majority are just what I need! I anticipate I will find it completely relevant for my 4th year exam next year. The 2 column format with questions on the left and answers on the right is ideal for testing those neurons...and the bookmark that comes with the book is absolutely indispensable. Basically it emphasizes what you would need to know and not more. The only thing is...I wish there is a version with metric units, any references to fluid and electrolyte measurements are totally meaningless to me here is Australia. I will write them in I think. Of course you will still need a proper surgical text, admittedly I have written in a few additional points in the book that I thought were important from reading other texts. But I had my surgical exam just today and the use of this book in revision was just invaluable. Not to mention those times when you do not feel like even glancing at your big surgery text, or when you have about 10 minutes spare while waiting in the car or for the pasta to cook....just attempting a few questions will make you feel constructive! This book has started a craze in me to check out all the other books in the "Recall" series...oh dear looks like an expensive year for me!
