Summary: It looks nice
Review: I just purchased this book, my class uses Mosby's book.. I don't care for that book and I only glanced through this one... It looks nice, I just wish I would have read these reviews first

Summary: Paramedic Bible!
Review: I'm one week away from my paramedic exam. This book has been my bible. It covers every aspect of paramedic care from just about every angle. It flows well and is not drab or dry like other text books. It's a huge book (2,000 pages), but there are 48 chapters. The chapters are easy to read and to draw information from. Each chapter contains objectives with page references, quick review content highlites on the edges of each page along with key terms and points. It has never been so easy to find definitions, referances and main content substance from a textbook.
It has beautiful illustrations, pictures from real medic calls and step-by-step diagramed charts with photographs demonstrating the procedures.
My favorite part of this text is the matching web site where you can take an on-line quiz for each chapter. This has been a great study tool.
The book is big, heavy and rather difficult to carry around, but it's basically the "World Book Encyclopedia of Paramedicine" wrapped up into one big book. A bit pricy, but worth the cost. Highly recommended. I wouldn't trade mine for the world.

Summary: 2,000+ Pages In Search of an Editor
Review: This book contains an appalling numbers of errors, inconsistencies, contradictions, typos, and other editorial oversights. The errors run the gamut: medication dosage errors, math errors, photos and graphics that do not math the description, spelling errors, misinterpretation of statistics, and more. This book may not kill any patients, but it will likely result in many students having to re-take their paramedic certification exams. You will do well to select another text whose authors and editor took the time to check their work.

Summary: was there even an editor for this book?
Review: This book is FULL of errors, it contridicts itself constantly, and over some very important issues. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is serious about this field. A basic word processor would have caught more errors than the editor did. I feel that if I would have used this book alone (without purchasing additional books from another source) that I would definatly NOT be prepaired to sit for National Registry.

Summary: A Complete Compendium of Errors
Review: This is NOT a text book, it is an anthology of related articles by different authors. The editor did a very poor job. The text is filled with substantive errors from the trivial to life threatening. Learning is a challenge because the authors of the various chapters (not surprisingly) have varying views but the editor did nothing to highlight, harmonize or in any way deal with this. The result, one chapter says "A" is the primary/most important whatever, while two chapters later someone else says that "B" is the primary/most important whatever, and four chapters later another author says that "C" is the primary/most important whatever. One example: "flail segment" is defined in three mutually inconsistent ways. Spelling errors abound, like "plural" for "pleural." Several authors appear to have little familiarity with prehospital care since they discuss the importance of tests (e.g., ABG) not available in the field. If you read the book and learn what it says without understanding the concepts, you will probably do well on the Brady-provided tests, which are pulled from the text by someone who had no clue about the subject matter; if you understand the concepts, you will find that the questions often have more than one equally valid answer. Avoid this disaster at all costs.

Summary: Essentials of Paramedic Care....Tragedy, or Not?
Review: Well it is true that I have found a few typos already, and that was in the first few chapters. However, after reading the reviews I can show you quite a few typos. This book is good and it was the book of choice by my Paramedic instructor, because he wanted a book that was writen by a real medic, not just a former medic that is now a realestate agent. Anyways, even if the book has errors in it, remember that the most important instruction tool along with your book is your INSTRUCTOR, and how he or she instructs you. The book gives great concepts, knowledge, and how to apply those both to the field. I believe it will be a great preparation for lectures and where I can bring up questions to my instructor. You can't blame your not being prepared for the National Registry test on a book, it is based on you. Here is my advice, if you have a problem or question from the book. "ASK YOUR INSTRUCTOR ABOUT IT." They are the ones that will set you on the right track, That's why Paramedic courses aren't independent studies. Anyways, I believe when I get done with school I will be ready to hit the streets. I believe this book will help me get there, with the help of my instructor of course.
