Summary: Good and bad..............
Review: .........Okay the PAT prep was very good (good examples and good strategy). The science prep is too short and oversimplified. If you use only this book for the science prep, you'll be in huge trouble. The sample DATs had good questions (similar to the real thing) but were loaded with errors! The reading prep technique taught in this book takes too long on the real test. They suggest practically outlining each passage before answering questions - which I found to be entirely unnecessary. Go for TopScore Pro before this test prep book.

Summary: Only helpful for the PAT
Review: ...This book gave me some excellent pointers for the PAT. For the PAT review, I give it 4 1/2 stars (minus 1/2 a point for a few obvious errors of course.)

If you're looking for a good science review, this book will not help AT ALL. Not only were a few things it said totally opposite of what my o-chem book said (eg Sn2 and Sn1 reactions), but the review itself is so short and vague that it doesn't help with the numerous details you have to know for the DAT. I strongly recommend an MCAT book - such as the Betz Guide ("Complete Preparation") - for science review. These books not only provide detailed review but also many, many practice questions as well as explanations for each one.

This book does not solely focus on the DAT though, and I enjoyed it for the extra material it included such as sample essays and interviews with dentists.

Summary: Good Read for the PAT section
Review: All reviews are right.
This book is filled with mistakes. Like.. zillion of them.
I got so frustrated after I finished practice test but it turned out, so many answers were wrong.
Question itself is ok but answer is all messed up.. It can lead u wrong direction. Do not buy this book.

Summary: Review from a Returning Student
Review: I am a returning student and have been out of college for some time. This book is not an adequate review for returning students. The review sections are very basic. I would reccommend getting the Schaums outlines for Biology and Chemistry instead. However, the PAT section of this book is very good. It is well worth the cost just for this section of the book. I would also reccommend getting the Top Score CD for a more adequate representation of the DAT. If your wondering how I did, I made a 20 on the Academic Average and an 18 on the PAT. Not bad for someone who hasn't looked at a textbook in 3 years.

Summary: A complete waste of money
Review: I dont know who Barrons got to edit the information and practice test answers in this book, but I could have done a better job!! The answers to many of the practice test questions were completely wrong and some review sections could be misleading. Save your time and money and dont buy this book

Summary: some helpful stuff
Review: I found this book to be a good resource for applying to dental school as my prehealth office had next to nothing to offer.

The supplemental info and the pat sections were helpful. Some of the review material was of benefit- however, some information was skimmed over.

I recommend purchasing several guides for your preparation- definitely get an MCAT guide for the science sections- this guide was cheap so I picked it up as well as others- and it did help.

and don't stress untill you get your scores back- I thought I bombed the test and ended up doing really well--Good luck studying-

Summary: Good Value
Review: This book has faults (sample exam errors, etc.) that have been abundantly pointed out by other reviewers, but the hints for the PAT are worth the money alone. I found the PAT on the DAT to be more difficult than some other prep products's sample tests would have you believe (Although, I did score well on the PAT). This book alone takes a methodical approach to finding the right answer, but also getting it fast, which was my problem. The science review sections were not as complete as some other books, but I found many of the explanations helpful in clarifying things that I had never learned well in my prereq classes, especially in the O Chem section, where the idea of using acid and base chemistry to solve problems was emphasized in a very helpful way. I would not recommend using this as your only review material, but in conjunction with TopScore Pro and my textbooks, etc., it helped me get very good scores on all sections of the DAT.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not Worth Buying
Review: When I was studying for the DAT, I bought this book for extra practice and for clarification on topics which I felt the Kaplan course was weak on. However, I found the text to be dry and unhelpful, and occasionally incorrect! Although the book comes with some sample exams, there are no explanations for the answers.

The only useful part of this book the section on the PAT. The hints are mediocre, but the plentitude of sample problems is good practice for the real thing.

In retrospect, I would not have purchased this book and might have gone with one of the computerized packets which are now available. The Kaplan course offered several computerized tests which were very helpful for the real thing!

FYI... Academic: 24, PAT: 21.
