Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great text for the history and issues of assessment
Review: Banta has drawn together a diversity of voices representing the leading thinkers and implementers of assessment. This diversity of one of the strengths of the book, as it offers the reader the opportunity to select from many viewpoints and experience-bases. The content includes a great review of the history of assessment. The articles also build an important and relevant bridge between the scholarship of teaching and learning and assessment. This is not the best book for nuts and bolts ideas for how to do assessment, and readers who are looking for that, would be served by other titles (such as Assessment Clear and Simple : A Practical Guide for Institutions, Departments, and General Education by Barbara E. Walvoord).
