Review: As usual, Honi Bamberger has written an extremely teacher-friendly book. If you are new to the idea of "glyphs" this is the ideal book. Patterns are provided for each glyph, as well as a legend, so that you don't have to construct your own. There is a glyph featured for every month of the year, plus a few extras. Students love this type of data collection, a welcome change from traditional "graphing" activities. These are also very easy to level, depending on the age of your students or how much guidance they require. It's a nice cross-curricular activity as well, integrating math and art. I can't wait for the next installment!

Review: I have been to a professional development class hosted by Dr. Honi B. (co-author of book) She is an outstanding person and teacher. These glyphs are not just art projects. The glyphs are representations of the children. When completed so much math and language rich vocabulary are going on you don't think you are teaching when you are. Glyphs symbols can be altered to suit your students (fish=boy snail=girl)...buy any books by Dr. Honi B.
