Rating: Summary: "Great book for educators interested in the brain" Review: As a high school English teacher, I enjoyed this book and found it enlightening. It also has an excellent bibliography. The chapter on "Orchestrated Immersion" was particularly interesting.
Rating: Summary: A must for every modern day educator! Review: Every teacher owes it to their students to read this book and make it part of their repetoire. The authors have gathered meaningful information and put it in language that every educator can understand. The challenge is to change our anti-brain methods in schools and to re-invent education NOW! The information fits educational work with every age. If nothing else is learned, the "DOWNSHIFTING" that the brain does when in the presence of threat should cause us to re-examine our motivational methods used with young and adolescent students.

I've applied its principles every day of the 10 years since reading it.If it had only covered the concept of downshifting, it would have been worth it. Instead, it fit it into a whole web of information, implications, and suggestions.

If you are interested in brain research, and how it impacts teaching your students, this book is a MUST! It explains how much information the human brain can process, and the various stages of learning.
