Summary: Review of The Muscular System Manual
Review: As a student of Massage Therapy I have used this book for Anatomy & Physiology and Kinesiology classes and can honestly say it is the best text book on the subject of the muscular system I have ever seen. This books strength is that it teaches you how to learn and understand muscles and muscle actions rather than just memorize them. It is very clearly organized and the illustrations are well labeled and easy to understand. There are also appendices covering such things as anatomical position & planes of the body, palpation guidelines and some fun and useful mnemonics. This book is very comprehensive, yet easy to use and I would highly recommend it to anyone studying the musculoskeletal system.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Ideal reference guide of musculoskeletal anatomy.
Review: Dr. Joseph E. Muscolino truly compiled the ultimate Musculoskeletal system anatomy textbook.

I esspicially found the Latin and Greek derivation section's to be very helpful in understanding the origins of the muscle names.

This author's logic and approach is unmatched.

Kudos to Dr. Joseph E. Muscolino!!!

Summary: Reference guide with More Muscle power!
Review: During my career as massage therapist for 15 years, I have used many anatomy texts for reference. I find The Muscular System Manual to be best suited for me, because it contains more than just good pictures. In this text Joe explains the use of each muscle with references to help one REMEMBER where the muscle is located in the body, attachments, actions, even derivations of the names. I find the clarity of the palpations section for each muscle especially beneficial for my work. The illustrations are well drawn and clearly labeled including a brilliant "how to use this book" section. This is a great anatomy text for the first time student as well as the well seasoned bodyworker who needs a refresher! Joe has clearly researched what information is needed for bodyworkers and has painstakingly compressed information from so many other great reference materials into one concise easy to understand manual. Bravo!

Summary: Complete, Clear, Clean and Concise
Review: How wonderfully refreshing it is to find a reference book that is complete, clean, clear and concise in its presentation. Too bad this text wasn't available when I was in massage therapy school. It takes all the dialog surrounding the essentials that bodyworkers need to know about the skeletal muscles and compartmentalizes them all into small, easy to digest bites - snapshots - of related, relevant information. No longer must I wade through paragraphs of lengthy descriptions and explanations to find the precise answer to my question. This text is the only one allowed to share the same shelf with - and has become the twin to - my other most used reference book, Frank Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy. Both are indispensable to me. Bravo, and thank you, Dr. Muscolino!

Summary: excellent book
Review: I bought this book after attending one of Dr. Muscolino's cadaver lab workshops. I highly recommend this book and, if you are thinking about a cadaver workshop, I recommend that as well. Dr. Muscolino is very knowledgeable, caring and sensitive.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I'm using it more than Netter's lately. Here is WHY?.
Review: It is an easy to use. I learn something every time I pick it up. This guide can assist anyone with human muscular anatomy, even the layperson.

There are many unique aspects in this resource therapists will appreciate including: 1) Multiple sources for cross-referencing, 2) Sections covering relationships to other musculoskeletal structure. 3) Miscellaneous information that is key to understanding the complexity and simplicity of muscle. 4) Obvious but rarely done - use of arrows on the drawings to illustrate ALL actions of each muscle. 5) Also enjoyable are the explicate directions for palpation! The appendices offer valuable category information such as muscle action by group, illustrated drawings of joint actions in motion, reverse actions, and innervation.

I have been encouraging my trigger point massage therapy students and to other learners and instructors to buy and use this text. After all, David Simons, MD says anatomy and palpation are the key to solving musculoskeletal pain.

Summary: Fantastic book for learning and understanding the muscles!
Review: It is nice to find a book dedicated to the muscular system. Although the graphics are simple (not photographic), the information and the lay out are great for learning and understanding of the muscles. The best pages in this book are those that lay out the muscular attachments of a region of the body.

Highly recommended for anyone that works in any field where the muscles are the focus!

Summary: It will spend more time in your hands than on your shelf.
Review: The Muscular System Manual is unique within the field of anatomy texts. Written from an experienced, teacher's perspective, Joseph Muscolino has reduced more than 15 years worth of teaching anatomy into a text of unparalleled quality. His commitment to accuracy of concept and detail of image is evident from cover to cover. It is obvious, to the reader, that Joe enjoys sharing his love for the subject. His wit and clear descriptions bring the muscles to life. We have selected the Muscular System Manual as our primary text for courses in anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology, at the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy. Whether a massage therapist, chiropractor, physical therapist, or anyone desiring an in-depth understanding of muscles and their actions, this is the text of choice. As a fellow chiropractor and in my role as Chair of Health Sciences, I highly recommend this text to anyone who wants a practical, yet complete, reference text which will spend more time in your hands than on the shelf.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Resource!
Review: This book is a great resource on multiple levels. It's easy to use and understand with a wealth of information. I use it regularly as a reference tool in my massage practice as well as for teaching Anatomy & Physiology and Kinesiology. The clear illustrations and palpation instructions far exceed anything else I've seen.

Anyone studying, interested in, or working with the musculoskeletal system will find this book to be an excellent addition to their library.
