Rating: Summary: Alas, all the worst sort of bunkum Review: Asked to check into chelation therapy for some ailing friends and relatives, I did, hoping very much to find something that would offer hope and help to those who were moving beyond the capacity of conventional treatment to cure.Regretfully I found absolutely no evidence beyond the hype of chelationist ads and the desperate hopes of the ill that chelation therapy is anything other than the worst sort of snake oil. There have in the last several years been several excellent studies done to determine the efficacy of chelation therapy. Not one demonstrates any effect beyond that caused by caring health care workers and hope. While those effects are interesting, they are not life saving. For a sobering and very fair discussion, go to the Quackwatch site, http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/chelation.html My best wishes to all.
Rating: Summary: This could be your last big trip! Review: How about the American Heart Association? Are the Chelationists next going to tell you AHA is full-of-it too? You ought to check-it-out before the big TRIP!
Google: American Chelation
Look at the AHA site and read what the ACS (American Cancer Society) has to say about it too. Hey, ask your doctor! If you choose the wrong people to hang with - you'll probably take the wrong trip and end up in the wrong place. It's YOU'RE job to shop, look, learn, listen, and figure it out!
Oh, here, how hard is this to understand: (from the ACS web) " .... Chelation ... can ... cause ... death." Whew.
But, but, but, "It works! It works!" ... how could that be?
I'll sell you a gallon of placebo water guaranteed to give you the placebo effect for only $5.00! Send $100 and I'll guarantee it will give you 20 times as much placebo effect as the $5 version! Ask your doctor which is better for you, Chelation or Larry's water? Oh, you don't trust your doctor? You don't trust me? You don't trust the ACS, or the AHA, or - um, how about yourself? You don't trust your ability to figure it out? Ask your doctor! If you don't, you just might be to stupid to be helped - have a nice trip.
mybest,
larry,
Rating: Summary: CAVEAT EMPTOR ON THE SEPT 23 REVIEW FROM VANCOUVER Review: I was about to have my third angioplasty and have changed my mind since my chance (miraculous?) finding of this terrific book. Normally a skeptic, I just kept reading. Then I looked up chelation in Dr. Rosenfeld's Guide to Alternative Medicine. His open-mindedness toward chelation was overwhelming. Since finishing Dr. Cranton's book, I've decided to find an MD who can get me out of the HMO quagmire and give me relief from carotid artery, leg, and cardiac vascular problems. If what you've done doesn't work, you change course!

Rating: Summary: CHELATION THERAPY SAVED BOTH OF MY PARENTS' LIVES ! Review: I'm not joking! My dad is an MD and was skeptical when my mom (herself an RN) insisted on having Chelation Therapy over 10 years ago. My mom was not far from the exit from this life from many different ailments (including arteries which were 90% clogged). After several treatments, mom's health perked up so much that my dad became a believer and went in for Chelation Therapy himself (his arteries were also mostly clogged). Mom and Dad are still alive and in pretty good health. My uncle had serious heart disease caused by clogged arteries, and was already in line to get open heart surgery when mom told him about what Chelation Therapy did for her. So my uncle dropped his open-heart surgery for the Chelation Therapy and never looked back. My copy of the book is the 1990 printing of the book that my mom gave me after she became a "convert." I have been spreading the word to anybody I know who has heart problems. Thank you Dr. Elmer Cranton for your dedication to Chelation Therapy and for saving so many lives. --George Stancliffe
Rating: Summary: CAVEAT EMPTOR ON THE SEPT 23 REVIEW FROM VANCOUVER Review: The reviewer refers to us the Quackwatch website for "an objective non-biased view into the lack of efficacy on chelation". The facts: Quackwatch is a website run by Stephen Barrett, a retired psychiatrist whose license expired seven years ago. The goal of this website is to discredit every single alternative therapy known to man through blanket ad-hominum generalizations. Fact: The most prominent medical journal in the world, THE LANCET, published 79 peer-reviewed double-blind placebo controlled studies proving the efficacy of EDTA chelation. Fact: In JAMA, vol. 260, p. 505, the orthodox medical establishment conceded that between 30% and 44% of all bypass surgeries are deemed unnecessary. And remember, 4% or 1 in 25 persons dies on the operating table during the procedure. So, for example, let's say: 100,000 bypass surgeries annually 30% or 30,000 deemed not necessary 4% or 1200 people die from an operation they should not have had. For more into the ulterior motives of Quackwatch, do a key word search for Quackpot Watch.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: This book is about the Chelation Therapy prcoess, but even more so, it is about how our bodies process elements from what we eat, and how we live our life and how the body processes substances, especially all the toxins that we comsume without even knowing it. There is alot of good statistical and medical information. And, why don't the vascular and cardiac specialists recommend this treatment in the cases where it could be very appropriate and life saving (as in the case of my mother which Chelation did save her from leg amputation!)? This book goes into some of the possible political reasons on the hush hush and widespread misconceptions about chelation practice. It is definiely a MUST READ.
Rating: Summary: new wave of medicine Review: Those who've written here to debunk chelation are a) clearly not informed medical professionals, and b) ignorant of its amazing benefits with virtually no risks (as opposed to the potential loss of life inherent in heart surgery). My husband is a doctor, and has trained in chelation. One patient was a diabetic who'd been to the Cleveland Clinic, Mayo ... all the top hospitals. They all recommended that his leg be amputated. He tried chelation, figuring the only thing he had to lose was his leg! After a lengthy series, he now has BOTH legs, and can work again and be a productive citizen. Another man we know of had such a poor prognosis with heart disease that he couldn't walk down the driveway to get his mail, and his doctor had him fill out DNR paperwork. (DNR: do not resuscitate) He tried chelation, again, as a last resort. He can now walk along the beach, be a part of his grandkids' lives. It's not just placebo; though -- as with any medical procedure -- some benefit more than others. The biggest lobby against chelation involves HEART SURGEONS! Why should they lose millions of dollars by recommending something benign and reasonably priced and non-invasive, which might just save their patients' lives??? (You can always have surgery later, if chelation doesn't help.) This book is the best source of information for those looking to know more ....
