Rating: Summary: DHEA and pros and cons Review: I am a little concerned about some of the negative comments made about DHEA on this page. The reality is that DHEA is a powerful hormone that shouldn't be treated like a vitamin off a supermarket shelf. Used correctly, it can literately add years to peoples live and reduce the risk of most major diseases of aging. The Dhea Breakthrough by Stephen A. Cherniske represents a positive interpretation of the literature on DHEA. But with all things, readers beware - as drug effectiveness is calculated on averages not on individual cases. There will always be individual response variation to all drugs, hormones and supplements. What does individual variation mean for the DHEA user, if we look closely at Cherniske's book there is a simple set of guidelines for use to avoid the problems by the poor fellow here who wrote a response to this book saying that he grew breasts, a rare reaction by males that are overly estrogenic to begin with, this is a dangerous hormonal state for a male to be in and he should start a protocol to reduce aromatisation of testosterone into estragon, this will also stop the over conversion of DHEA to estrogen. Of course, my review is influenced by my own views on DHEA use, so please be aware of this issue. 1. Use blood test monitoring to insure you are not over or under supplementing DHEA, this is important, never supplement above the top one third of the range for your age. Likewise, under supplementation might be insufficient to gain any benefit and therefore is a waste of money. 2., make sure you have a full blood hormone panel, including estrogen, total testosterone and free testosterone to ensure you are not over converting to estrogens dominance, a conditions with all sorts of health problems for males. If you are, don't panic, as there are a few good natural supplements and pharmaceuticals that are great for stopping this reaction. In fact all males tend toward estrogenic dominance as they age and reducing this can lean us down and tone us up improving cardiovascular profiles. It is a fact that lots of middle aged guys make more estrogens that women of the same age. 3., do not take DHEA if you have severe side effects or if you have any hormonally related cancer, more current research is suggesting there might be a role for DHEA in some cases here, but should only be considered with specialist oncology MD advice and supervision. 4., lastly and most importantly, DHEA is more likely to converted to estrogen if we are overweight, fat cells make estrogen, and we sit around all day eating junk food. For best results with DHEA, get active, try a higher protein - moderate carb approach, get some regular cardio exercise and start lifting some weights, use a trainer if you are very out of condition, after a fitness assessment by a MD. Exercise has an independent positive effect on testosterone and weight loss reduces estrogen conversion and total levels in the male body. Combining exercise, diet, lifestyle with appropriate DHEA use is the great approach that maximise benefits and reduces potential problems.
Rating: Summary: Beware of DHEA and S.Cherniske advise Review: I had read this book. It convinced me to try DHEA.I did. It was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I developed a gynecomastia - enlargement of male breast as a result of it. Nothing can reverse it back, except an expensive plastic surgery. Thanks to doctor Cherniske and everyone who promotes DHEA.
I am totally agree that this substance should be prohibited for sale.
Rating: Summary: I've been taking DHEA for about 6 months. Review: I haven't read the book yet but have experience of Dhea. What I find most remarkable is the difference between various brands. I have taken 3 different brands, all claiming to be close to 100% pure and of pharmecuetical grade. The first one I took was 50mg a day of NON micronised DHEA. The second was 50mg a day of micronised slow release DHEA and finally 25mg of micronised DHEA with bioavailability enhancing factors. The last is the most recent and I have not noticed any change in mood, libido, strength or weight loss. It is too early with this one to be sure however of the effect. Perhaps I need to increase the dose to 50Mg. The slow release DHEA seemed to have a strong effect in the head, making me feel quite strange at first but after a week or two I got used to it. Again I noticed litte advantage on the product. However a couple of friends of mine on a 25mg dose did experience good results with this version of DHEA, in particular my female friend, went back to a weight she hadn't been for 10 years and had her skin improve markedly. She also came out of a rotten hole of hormone problems she was having. The first DHEA I took was non micronised. This had by far the greatest effect on me. I lost weight, felt fitter and my mood and libido improved markedly. I think perhaps it was the conversion of the non micronised DHEA in the liver to Dhea sulphate and testosterone that was giving these results. The juries still out but I think the non micronised was better for me. Why not a product half and half? Better still coupled with pregnenalone as well. I would be interested to hear of any ones elses experience with these products.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Readers should keep one thing in mind that is DHEA should not be treated like a vitamin purchased from a supermarket but it is a powerful hormone which can add years to peoples lives and protect them against serious disease of aging. This should be administered under strict supervision. Under supplementation will not provide required effect. Correct administration will give you increased vitality, energy and strength.
By giving up my coffee habit I realized having that wired up feeling all day clouded my concentration. Did you know one cup of joe raises your blood pressure by 14%! Fortunately for me I was able to find a wonderful tasting replacement made from soyabeans. You brew like coffee and it even helps lower my cholesterol. I found it online at www.S o y c o f f e e.c o m. Gaining this understanding will effect every move you make from this point on and will bring with it the necessity to share it.
Rating: Summary: DHEA made me have explosive rage episodes Review: Since taking DHEA I have lost body fat, my exercise is more effective, I feel better, and my libido has increased! Read this book! Stephen Cherniske not only describes what DHEA can do for you, but teaches in detail a lifestyle consistent with health and longevity. DHEA restores balance to the immune system, strengthens bones, decreases recovery time after a workout, reduces body fat, decreases risk of heart disease, decreases risk of cancer, and decreases hyperinsulinism which contributes to obesity, hypertension, heart disease, and adult onset diabetes. DHEA tells the brain: "I'm young!..keep me well, alive, and kicking!" Wouldn't you like to take the DHEA and other health-building products that Steve Cherniske himself has formulated?
Rating: Summary: Beware of the source: Stephen Cherniske Review: The author boasts both a masters degree from Columbia Pacific University (a non-accredited institution which was ordered to cease operating illegally by the Marin County Superior Court), and membership in The National Academy of Research Biochemists (a group whose membership requirements appear to be no more than a ...payment).As references, I offer bulletins from www.quackwatch.org, a respected online resource whose mission is to "combat health-related ...myths, fads, and fallacies", and the author's own pages from his MLM companies: ...quackwatch......oasisnetwork...mindbodyhealth...
Rating: Summary: INFO-PACKED, ENGAGING READ Review: The author provides all the information one needs to take advantage of and maximize the amazing properties of DHEA in a safe and effective manner. But his DHEA Plan is not only about taking pills, but improving your lifestyle with stress-reduction techniques, an exercise program and dietary advice. Every aspect of DHEA is covered - from the plant in which it is obtained, through the manufacturing process, down to dosage directions. His witty writing style is engaging, and the book concludes with a number of appendices (resources, health support organizations, reasons why it is essential to take vitamin supplements) and a glossary, bibliography and index. I also recommend Ray Sahelian's book on DHEA, Renewal by Timothy J Smith and The Superhormone Promise by William Regelson for a superb overview of ALL the superhormones and other nutrients that can extend and improve human life.
Rating: Summary: A biochemist's view, not a medical doctor's view Review: This book is written in the view of a biochemist, instead of a medical doctor. Actually, some information regarding prostate cancer and testosterone is incorrect, other information are not enough if not incorrect.
