Review: The Commodification of Childhood: The Children's Clothing Industry and the Rise of the Child Consumer by Daniel Thomas Cook is avery distrurbing book that documents the rise of the childrens clothing industry and the rise and creation of the child consumer. Some might ask why I object to this notion so strongly. Is not a child a potential consumer in the first place. My answer to this is absolutely not since the child should be free form the pressures of consumerism and have a world free from the clutches of greedy, self serving companies.
