Rating: Summary: "Burning Brightly without Burning Out" Review: "Burning Brightly without Burning Out" is a breath of fresh air to those pressed by the demands of life. Besides being easy to read, the content is straightforward and potent. With so many voices calling for our attention, it's wonderful to have some basic principles by which to evaluate our commitments. Bigg's solid foundation gives his life direction and purpose. Instead of trying to do it "all" half-heartedly, Biggs has discovered the secret of doing a few priorities well. Thanks for the lessons well-learned!
Rating: Summary: Totally Life Changing Review: A friend chose this book and left it at my house. I ran out of books for the moment and picked it up thinking it was another one of those... How absolutely overwhelmed I was at my age (73) to learn so much in so few pages. Much of what he has said to help guide people to a fuller, richer life, I had already learned and applied, but none of us have ever reached the point we can't learn or see something a bit differently. My life changed drastically when health dictated this master workaholic was ordered to shut down her thriving business overnight or else...For 2 years I have been under recontruction to learn to be at peace in every situation. I can see, however, how to start over again now that my health is back and the doors are slowly opening to be useful again to myself and the Lord but this time I am going to keep this book right along with my Bible so I will put into practice the principles Richard K. Biggs has put forth. For whatever years I have left I intend to do it right and be a blessing to all I meet because of these excellent guidelines.
Rating: Summary: Soulful, Rich and Inspirational Review: After coming off a huge intense project, I was not burning very brightly. Dick Biggs helped me to understand that I was perhaps experiencing a turning point and its impact. (See Chapter 15 Desisting and Persisting) I discovered there were many positives about the experience I was overlooking. Wonderful book for anyone seeking more meaning in life. Fresh material and great anecdotes. I have several corporate executives I am coaching who will receive this encouraging and delightful gem.
Rating: Summary: Leadership Text/ Review: Dick Biggs' book has something for all of us, from leaders in our military, to industry, and our society. Every parent should have this book because it lays out what is important in life, read relationships, and how to achieve same. We are the leaders of our children, and Dick makes very stronge leadership points. This book is divided into twenty contrasts of life, twenty short chapters loaded with idea, thoughts, and recomendations that we need to study and commit upon. The first chapter, Image and Integrity, is the perfect start. Without integrity we don't amount to much, but too many of us today are only concerned with image. In this chapter, "grit" is found in the word integrity. This book is small, 5 X 7.5 inches, and the chapters are 4 to six pages that makes for handy reading. Read a chapter with your morning coffee, while waiting for the rest of the members to arrive at a meeting, and at other times when you have ten minutes for good thoughs about where you are going. Most importantly, if you take this work seriously, you can determine who you really are and how others know you. We all need to think about Richard Biggs' words, they will help us and our society. This is a great gift for those people you love.

Rating: Summary: A Great Way to Start the Year Review: For years I've been reading two books monthly on personal development(Well,at least trying real hard to do so!). The first book of each year is most important because it is the foundation upon which the entire year's reading is built. It is imperative, then, that I choose wisely for the year's first read, and this year I could not have chosen better - I selected "Burn Brightly Without Burning Out". Grounded in a solid spiritual base, "Burn Brightly.." presents 20 powerful insights into leading a more balanced life, and it begins with a wonderful section on determining your purpose for being on the planet. The 20 insights come to life with right-on vignettes and action steps for making them happen in your own life. "Burn Brightly..." is an easy read, yet a challenging one, for it challenges you to think about your life in a different way. The format is great for travel and it fits very nicely on the night stand as well. You've probably already read your first books of the year, so let me suggest you make "Burn Brightly Without Burning Out" your next one.
Rating: Summary: The Accidental Goldmine! Review: I came across this book accidentally while searching for a book by a similar author, John Maxwell. But what a find! The title and subtitle grabbed my attention, and I've not been disappointed. It's a must-read for individuals busy with careers and other endeavors that sometimes wonder if their efforts are really producing the best long-term results. Even when you love what you do, one can question the level of balance. I'd also recommend it for new college grads. It's an excellent way of looking at your personal goals and helping ensure that your time and effort are balanced to achieve them. It's a small book, but it packs a big punch. It's not one to be read in one fell swoop. The chapters are very readable, but are best read in small chunks so as to really consider and apply the concepts to your life. If you read this book with even the least bit of consideration, it's going to change your outlook. I read a chapter a day (about three or four pages) on the way in to work as a tone-setter and thought-provoker. I plan to re-read it again in the same manner. The best part of the book, to me, was the suggestion to create a life's purpose statement - a single statement which defines your dominant interests, values, and general approach for dealing with life and your activities. As Dick stated, it was extremely liberating and energizing to produce one and get a sense of what's REALLY important to me (and to what degree). That overall statement will now convert to annual goals and periodic checkpoints to ensure that my time is spent in ways that support my life's purpose, and not just whatever is "urgent" on a particular day or week. If you view life as just a series of days until retirement, etc., this isn't your book. But if you've ever wondered, "How can I make the most of my life (burn brightly) and simultaneously ENJOY THE JOURNEY?", then this book is for you - or for someone else you care about.
Rating: Summary: Best of Biggs-A Winner! Review: I've read Dick Biggs' other books, heard him talk, and witnessed the positive change and growth in people from the mentoring program he developed. BURN BRIGHTLY WITHOUT BURNING OUT is his best work. If you like Stephen Covey, Norman Vincent Peale, John Maxwell or Ken Blanchard, this book should appeal to you because it packs powerful but simple ideas of living a better life. The author uses good illustrative examples in his twenty short and compact chapters that serve as stepping stones in a stairway to happiness and fulfillment in your life. Its messages have solid moral foundations, The book's subtitle, Balancing the Work You Need with the Life You Lead, is a theme carried throughout this fine work, with appeal for adult readers of all ages. I've given copies of this book to a niece working towards a medical degree, a retired senior military officer friend starting a new executive career and a brother rebuilding his life, in addition to my three grown children. The book is an easy read, however, its worthy of highlighting and reading again for reinforcement and to pick up additional insights. The book covers a lot of ground in less than 150 short pages and lives up to its title. It's a winner!
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: Outstanding book that'll nurture your heart and nourish your mind. A must read! It's an awesome book, and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Burn Brightly Without Burning Out Review: Thanks Dick for a great book! Your book, Burn Brightly without Burning Out is jam-packed with page after page of useful information and advice about getting more out of life and balancing your career. It was easy to read and handy enough to take anywhere which was great for me since I'm constantly on the go. In chapter nine, the planning versus priority section was especially valuable to me because it helped make writing my book a top priority and not just a plan. As of yesterday, February 12, 2003, I'm proud to say that my book is finished and ready for the publisher! I encourage anyone to purchase this book if they're ready to start living a more balanced and productive life.
