Rating: Summary: This Book Really Helped Me Review: As a manager of about 30 people, I found this book extremely helpful. Some of the things I new before, but didn't really know how to apply them. This is not just a bunch of theory - it's real world.
Rating: Summary: A great contrarian combination Review: Dr. Rinke has used a fun approach to outline the necessary skills to improve leadership skills. By taking the backdoor approach he shows you exactly what to do. The book is full of wisdom, examples, techniques and humor. It should be required reading for any manager or leader.
Rating: Summary: Right On Review: Dr. Wolf Rinke has developed many concepts that I have incorporated and used in my speaking and consulting business to foodservice professionals. I especially think this one is valuable. It is "right on" and conforms exactly to my findings from 15 years in the field as a consultant to the food service industry. I am going to make this course required reading for my clients and their bosses. This is Wolf's best work yet.
Rating: Summary: Substance, Not Fluff Review: Finally! I have a business newsletter, and I make book recommendations to my subscribers monthly. But I almost never find a leadership book out there worth recommending. Why? Because they're all full of cliches and blather, and they recycle the same platitudes that have by now lost all meaning. But in this book, Rinke takes on all that nonsense and provides the kind of direct, contrarian wisdom that cuts to the heart of leadership in today's marketplace. The chapters are well organized, with easy to review action steps, and it's full of eye opening nuggets like, "mission statements do not work!," and "don't prove yourself." I highly recommend the book for any exeutive or aspiring leader, and will recommend it to my clients.
Rating: Summary: A user friendly fun guide to improving leadership skills Review: This book is a practical and fun way to learn how to be a more effective leader. As a small business owner, I found the book particularly helpful because it made me question some of the management principles I used to believe in. For instance, I learned the value of trusting my employees--a concept that was initially foreign to me. Once I learned that most people want to do the right thing, I stopped micromanaging and it improved our firm's performance as well as my relationships with my employees. This book is also very engaging and fun to read--not some management text that will make your eyes glaze over. I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: An easy read chocked full of great reminders and useful tips Review: This is a great book to jog your thinking and uncake your brain so you don't keep doing what you have been doing.Rinke's sage advice will cause you to think a bit differently and try a few new tricks that will give you an edge in leading and managing your organization. I particularly liked chapter 10, Don't Have People Work for You and chapter 13, Trust All the People All the Time. These chapters provide great insights and ideas for leading and managing a diverse workforce with plenty of Generation X and Millenium Group associates. This is the kind of book that does not require great study or a huge reading investment, but provides great reading enjoyment and a big payoff in sound advice.
Rating: Summary: D'ont Oil the Squeaky Wheel Review: This is undoubtedly one of the best leadership books ever written. Wolf Rinke offers an enlightening and light hearted view on the all-important business concepts of great leadership. His reflections provide a fresh outlook and guide for leaders in any industry. Wolf Rinke has inspired me to change my mental model on leadership and truely change how I lead. I plan to recommend this book as a "must read" for my entire leadership team.
