Summary: Don't be a "Dummy"; buy a different review book.
Review: An extremely cursory review of the GMAT with unchallenging examples and little depth to the lessons. Written for all the 10 year olds who will be taking the GMAT. Not worth investing money or time in.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: BUYER BEWARE!
Review: For all the years that the author claims to be a pro at test prep, her questions and answers in the full-length tests are wrong. That's right, wrong.

May I suggest the E.T.S. GMAT book? It has real GMAT questions.

Summary: This book is Great!!!
Review: I don't think this book is light "AT ALL"! The Author gets right to the point of what the GMAT test taker needs to know. I learned tips that I wish I knew when I was in high school. She has tips in there that will help cut down on time, which I think is very important when you happen to come across a question or two that needs dwelling on. The grammar and math review section cut right to the point. Her tips help you remember what you've read so it stays "locked in" your brain. This book is for everyone and anyone. Maybe in her next edition the author should include a CD. Right now this is one of two books I'm studying from. The other is ARCO's "Everything You Need to know to score high on the GMAT CAT". This also is an excellent book. I'm taking the GMAT next week, and I have a good feeling I'll do well the first time.

Summary: Would've been great if it weren't for the mistakes
Review: I started studying for the GMAT with this book, and at first it seemed like a good idea. The book seemed like it was delivering good content with a really funny humorous style. But later on I realized the flaw in that approach.

The GMAT test isn't fun! You go in there and you're in for 3 1/2 of the most stressful hours in your life! The questions aren't funny and none of the answers is ridiculously wrong. After taking the test I felt like I was a soldier thrown into a brutal battle after being trained on fighting with water pistols! The book might give you the tactics you need to know for the GMAT, but along with that, it puts you in the wrong spirits for the test.

Another fatal flaw is found in the fact that some of the math laws provided are wrong! When I reached the math section I noticed that there was something wrong, but I couldn't put my hand on it, especially that I haven't rubbed shoulders with math since I graduated from college. However I eventually discovered that some symbols were MISSING and that's what made some of the examples lacking sense! Luckily, I was able to identify the missing symbols and filled in the blanks and that helped get over that problem.

I liked the author. She was really funny and her kindness was present in her work. But this book isn't what I would recommend for anyone wanting to study for the GMAT.

Summary: Entertaining & Excellent GMAT Preparation
Review: I strongly disagree with some of the other reviewers' assessments of this book. First, one of the reviewers seems to have very poor grammar skills to begin with, so I distrust the claim from that reviewer that many of the answers in this book are incorrect. I admit that I found a few answers to be questionable, but when I did some further investigating, they turned out to be right. I studied from this book and this book alone before I took the GMAT, and I got an outstanding score! Every single sample problem in this book was on the GMAT test in some form or another. And, because the author provided such insightful tips & tricks, I recognized all the traps on the GMAT and managed to avoid most of them. The only reason I'm rating this book with 4 stars versus 5 stars is that I did find some grammatical errors within the text of the book itself, and I thought the editors could have done a better job at catching those errors. I would also strongly recommend a supplemental book if you are having more difficulty with either the grammar or the math problems because, once you take the practice exams, the questions & answers become too familiar & there's not much more you can learn from your errors.

Summary: Great book, for what it is
Review: Quite frankly this is a difficult test. Typically the ... For Dummies books do a great job in giving information on a subject. This book treats the subject matter too light. The publisher did not catch the many errors in mathematical formulas, and if this is your only reasource, your not going to do well. The first two chapters that explain basic information about the test, do an excellent job. The book looses ground quickly at that point and in the end does a poor job in preparing you for the exam if this is your only source of studing for the exam.

Summary: Several errors in the practice exams
Review: Steer clear of this book -- it seems to be out of print, so I suppose that shouldn't be hard. At least in the 4th edition, there are numerous outright errors (mathemtical symbols missing, grammatical mistakes, and typos) in both the practice questions and sample exams that make it difficult to take it seriously. Unfortunately, this book is simply a waste of money.

Summary: Great book, for what it is
Review: This is a great book if you only take it for what it is meant to be: a starting point. I purchased this book to begin studying for my GMAT with no intentions of it being the only book I would use. The book does an excellent job of explaining the GMAT in general and does a great job teaching to the writing portion of the test. The math review and verbal review are good places to start, but unless you are very strong already in these areas, you will likely need another book to complement this one. I think this is an excellent book and is certainly a much better read than any of the other GMAT prep books I have used.
