Rating: Summary: Refer-it.com suggests this book for Web marketers Review: Author Daniel Gray provides a good background of the affiliate industry and why you should, at least, consider selling products and services from your site through the affiliate model. In addition to some merchant profiles and affiliate success stories, "The Complete Guide..." features a directory of the top 100 affiliate programs with contact information, commission structures, and all of the other relevant details of each program. The book also touches on the importance of obtaining top listings in the search engines and directories, as well as tips on building a quality site. Overall a good introduction to the potentially lucrative world of affiliate programs.
Rating: Summary: Why ration the passion? Review: Dan calls this "a complete guide", but only has one paragraph on multilevel affiliate programs. Most of us go to our graves with our music still in us. When the average adult in their 30's or 40's passes on it's the equivalent of an entire public library being burned to the ground. Legitimate multilevel marketing companies such as AllAdvantage have a unique "teachtoteach" way of showing everybody all over the earth,if you will just begin to get involved at any level and share, you will become what you think about. There are too many sad people in this world afraid of technology. Psychologists say if you can just get a person somehow involved you can raise there success level enough to get them committed. When you teach from the getgo, you begin internalizing and articulating what you begin to "study". This helps us "learn" and perpetuate the human race. The internet belongs to the masses. Today is Easter. It reminds me that even common men can become "fishers of men". It was Andrew who finally "recruited" Peter to speak to Jesus. Mark my words, in the coming years "multi-affiliate" programs will play a dramatic role in perpetuating knowledge of internet marketing to the poor and disadvanteged of the 4 corners of the earth that is now only in the hands of a few.
Rating: Summary: nice start, needs to go to the next level Review: Daniel Gray has written The Complete Guide to Associate and Affiliate Programs on the Net to provide a very insightful look at this booming industry and to encourage his readers to consider participating in what it may have to offer them. Readers will learn who the big players are, such as Be-Free, Commission Junction, and LinkShare, and learn what is involved in bringing merchant companies and prospective affiliates together. Readers will also learn about the different types of programs offered to affiliates and the mechanics involved in setting up business relationships. The book features full-page listings of the 100 top companies (merchants), that, according to Gray, offer the best affiliate marketing opportunities. Readers can familiarize themselves with the history of each company and determine for themselves whether a perfect marriage can take place. Information such as Websites, types of products and services, contact information, program administration, commission and payment schedules, revenues, and restrictions are provided to permit prospective affiliates to make informed and intelligent decisions. Gray offers a selection of merchant profiles to help readers understand the behind-the-scenes operations of leading companies in this industry. This is an insightful experience! The book also features a number of affiliate marketing success stories. Readers will be able read up on what others have already experienced - the good and the bad, and learn how they can successfully participate. Guidance in selecting merchants, designing Websites and newsletters, launching publicity campaigns, keeping track of sales, and the listing of resources that provide additional assistance make this book truly amazing. Must reading!
Rating: Summary: wading through the fluff... Review: Don't waste your MONEY on this book. Even for beginners I can't comprehend the previous rave reviews...hmmm...makes you wonder. The first 1/3 of this book is decent but extremely watered -down, the breadth of the definitions and explanations can be found in just about any simple search for "affiliate programs" in any search engine. A 1/3 of this book is just affiliate profiles by company(these can be esily viewed at the affiliate company's site), the last 1/3 of this book are just company histories of those affiliates(good if you haven't read those twinkling success stories in all the other books that use them, useless if you are interested in fundamental strategies to fully capitilize on affiliate programs for yourself (something that is loosely referred to in this book). Although resources on this subject are limited, I would recommend online info as they seem to have the most current affiliate info. One good site that i found valuable info is at: http://www.blue-house.com/affiliate/ Save your money for a useful book and find the latest info online...

Rating: Summary: You need this book. Review: I'm lucky enough to have some books listed on Amazon.com. One day I noticed that sales just jumped. I found out that Dan Gray had listed one of my titles on his website and was selling it through Amazon.com's Associate program. Dozens of other websites had done the same but none boosted sales the way Dan's did. When I learned that Dan had written this book, I had to get it. Those jumping book sales meant that this was somebody who knew what he was writing about. The advice in this book helped my son and I design, set up and promote a new website and affiliate program. The hints on getting listed with search engines got our little site noticed fast. Dan Gray has tried and tested his ideas. This is how-to information that works. If you're planning a website and thinking about affiliate sales programs, you need this book.
Rating: Summary: Needs updating Review: Most of the advice from this book is still relevant, generate a high volume site that is 'sticky' for users and pick appropriate affiliate schemes. It does provide useful advice e.g. to utilize your existing web sites and links to help build volume.
In isolation, this book is insufficient. Unless you already have a good traffic volumes, you will have to gain an understanding of search engine positioning and viral marketing to get your site traffic up. Only good content will get people to stay. If you are writing content just to generate affiliate sells (some people do), you should be looking at how you can generate more income from the content than affiliate sells only (e.g. do you have a related product or service you can sell?).
Since 1999, affiliate programs have come, gone and changed. In this respect the book is out of date. Good introduction but showing its age - affiliate sells should be part of an overall strategy unless your doing it for pocket money.
Rating: Summary: Good for newcomers to affiliate marketing Review: Offers nonsensical advice such as "work hard to get a good ranking is the search engines"... and also keeps promoting the same few affiliate programs which leads me to believe the author has dealings with those companies. You can get a lot of the advice for free from various websites. Only for total novices who don't know anything about the net.
