Summary: Eureka! A book about NLP that everyone can understand!
Review: Eureka! A book about NLP that everyone can understand AND practically use. Congratulations to Sue Knight for making this amazing science of communication accessible to so many. NLP at work provides anyone who is interested in applying NLP the practical means to do so. After personally having read many NLP texts this is the first that explains this amazing science of communication in a way that makes sense to those of us who do not have a background in psychotherapy. NLP at Work is precisely that. Sue uses many examples which everyone can relate to with experiences of their own both at work and home. It really is a guide on how to allow NLP to work for you. I strongly recommend anyone interested in NLP to read this book first and anyone already familiar with NLP and interested in explaining it to others to use Sue Knights book as a guide on how to do so.

Summary: NLP at Work
Review: Hi! I have just recently read NLP at Work by Sue Knight.NLP is about modeling excellence and Sue does a wonderful job.She uses a unique format. The book has wide margins to input notes. The style flows in this way information, definition, technique, personal experience, examples from other sources and then metaphor or stories to give you a full experience of the learning style. Sue is a business woman and while NLP is psychology Sue finds everyday examples that remove the psychological word jargon. She closes the book with a whole chapter which summarizes in step by step form all the techniques used in the book. This was an easy read and I learned a lot even though I read NLP books at the rate of one a month. I recommend this book as an NLP Primer.

Summary: The definitive book on using NLP in business
Review: Hurrah! An NLP book by someone English, and it's good. Very clear and well-structured overview of NLP as it applies to business. Sue is great on the importance of integrity and congruence in organisations, and on how to use sensory-rich language in corporate communications. I've found this book useful in my work in brand positioning. Docked one star for the metaphors (guess what - wizards, wise old men and dolphins) which many readers are going to find annoying. Just skip them, guys! Otherwise excellent.

Summary: A really good book on NLP - made better
Review: I like the updated version of the book very much. Sue's style makes for both an easy and engaging read. The book is now even more comprehensive, covers all the key NLP topics, with a few new ones added. In particular, I like the new hypnotic language chapter - it's powerful stuff!. I like the way you can dip in and out of areas and it still makes sense. Plus the stories, thought-provokers and various quotes etc. make it a much more enjoyable read.

Summary: Excellent, readable and understandable NLP book for anyone
Review: I love this book. There are many books about NLP, and Sue Knight's "NLP at Work" stands out for the clarity of its explanations and for the entertaining approach to a subject many other books seem to obfuscate rather than explain. Anyone who can read will enjoy and benefit from this book.

The book is intended for anyone whose work involves managing or leading people, and begins with an introduction into the elements of NLP. Neuro Linguistic Programming is a name seemingly almost designed to put off the uninitiated. The introduction and the first part of "NLP at work", the first 77 pages of it, form the clearest introduction into the various elements that make up the three parts of NLP I have yet seen. Not only are the elements explained, there are plenty of examples and suggestions for how to try them out on one's own. This section alone would be worth the price of the book.

The second part, titled "Managing with NLP" deals with applying NLP to work situations. It starts by using NLP to manage one's own self, leading by example so to speak. Not surprisingly, this is the longest chapter in the book, since one of the principle of NLP is that it starts by looking at yourself. It follows with a chapter each on creating a compelling vision, developing trust, recognizing and appreciating different people's views. The second last chapter shows how one can recognize and use one's own internal resources to deal well with a variety of situations, and the last chapter talks about change and personal congruence. My favorite is the chapter on internal resources and how one can "anchor" them to be able to access them at will. To me this is still something magical.

The final part, entitled "The Toolkit" is something truly unique. A set of fourteen exercises, each tied back to chapters in the first and second parts, that allow you to work your way through applying the principles of NLP to yourself and give you a much more thorough understanding of both NLP and yourself.

It is also worth noting that "Managing with NLP" is itself an excellent example of applied NLP in action. The text of a chapter is accompanying in the margins by illustrations or short key points to help understanding and retention. "Thought provokers", a few questions or short exercises, are used throughout the book, as are metaphorical stories. One to provoke the conscious mind, the other to prod the subconscious? Maybe one for each hemisphere of the brain? Or maybe one to distract the conscious mind while the book appeals directly to the subconscious. The readers can decide for themselves, and have a great deal of fun doing it.

I thoroughly recommend this book. It will help anyone who wishes to become more effective in everyday workplace and other situations involving interactions between people. It is also a wonderful example to other NLP authors.

Summary: A great holiday read!
Review: I took this book on holiday with me and when I picked it up for a quick flick through I was amazed that I couldn't put it down! The only problem was that I was constantly drawn into the book by wonderful revelations about how to improve your personal effectiveness and there is so much in the book that deserves really thorough study, like the "thought provokers" at the end of each chapter. It will take me a long time before I have really extracted all the goodness from this remarkably accessible book.

NLP at Work is delightfully free of jargon. The style and language Sue uses are very attractive, and an excellent example of how to deliver messages effectively. She illustrates points with mini real life case studies. The stories which punctuate the book are delightful in themselves, but also rich in wisdom and wonderful catalysts to greater understanding.

Sue invites the reader to explore their heart's desire, and to understand that whatever they desire, they are capable of achieving. "What you think is what you get." Achieving potential, both one's own, and that of those around us, is a very attractive proposition. Sue leads the reader through a wonderful journey of exploration. She helps us to understand ourselves and our own individual map of the world in a new way. She shows us how to be more effective in our business and personal lives. She helps us to acknowledge our own true values, and to ensure that our lives are in harmony with them.

NLP at work is satisfyingly well constructed and laid out. It is delightfully surprising and entertaining, and it is deeply rewarding and helpful to anyone wanting to learn and grow.

Summary: Not enough deapth
Review: Neuro linguistic programming, which sounds like a diabolical technique straight out of A Clockwork Orange, is actually a relatively straightforward method of paying attention to the verbal and non-verbal messages that people constantly emit. By noting the inflection, body language and eye movements of others, you can glean a better understanding of what they are really thinking. Conversely, by controlling the signals that you send, you can make sure that people are getting the right message. With the caveat that many elements of NLP are straight out of Communications 101, we from getAbstract recommend this book to anyone in business whose communications skills could use an upgrade.

Summary: Clear and readable guide that cuts through the jargon
Review: NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming is how you make sense of your world and most importantly how to make it what you want it to be. Other books tell you what to do. The difference that makes a difference with NLP is that it gives you the know how.

Neuro concerns the way you filter and process your experience through your senses. Linguistic concerns the way you interpret your experience through language whilst Programming concerns the way you code your language and behaviour into you own personal program.

Sue Knight explains the difference that makes the difference between those who excel and those who `get by' in the way they communicate, motivate, influence, negotiate, lead, empower and manage their own self-development.

This clear and readable guide cuts through the jargon of NLP, and introduces the techniques that will enable you to become more successful in any area of business that you choose.

Sue Knight is a leading trainer in and speaker on NLP for business. She pioneers the special use of NLP to improve the quality of the business world.

Summary: The most straight forward NLP book currently available
Review: Of the dozen or so books on NLP that are in my bookcase, this is my favourite. It's so easy to read and understand. I've bought copies for all my management team and given several to my friends.

NLP at Work is both an excellent reading book and a "dip in anytime for a gem" type of book.

Buy it and read it, it is life improving.
