Summary: Exellent Book
Review: Excellent as a textbook. I use it to teach a university-level management consulting class. Many of the relevant topics covered provide a very good basis for in-class discussion. It is well written and insightful, presenting an accurate portrayal of what it is to be a management consultant. I especially like the sections scripted by industry veterans. I recommend this book to anyone interested in or considering a career in management consulting.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very Informative, Good Summary
Review: I thought that this book provided a very good summary of the management consulting industry, and what kinds of things I needed to look for and questions that I needed to ask to make sure that I was targetting the right kind of firms for me. It also provided a pretty good summary of a number of different frameworks - great if you need a bit of a refresher. There were even some frameworks that I had not learned that the book taught me about. It does not go into an in depth description of the frameworks, but the summaries are pretty good, even if you have not learned about the frameworks before.

The book provides a number of different examples of cases, but only provides possible solutions for a few. That is my only disappointment with the book - I wish it provided a few more possible solutions to some of the problems. Other than that I found it very informative.

I would say that it is more targetted towards someone coming out of school or looking for a career change.

Summary: Exellent Book
Review: Sorry to say, but in my opinion this is not a good book. Most of the stuff within is generic and/or not saying very much that an average student would not already know. The 15 frameworks described in some 30 pages are interesting though they do not justify the rest of the book. When it comes to case questions, it even turns a bit silly. Although the question "How much does a Boeing 747 weigh" provides a problem solving case in abstracto, it is also suggested that an applicant should in fact be able to do a fair estimate assuming this and that. This is where this book is going astray. As a tool for picking the "crème de la crème" this approach appears to be an obsolete echo of the past, not a bit more succesful today than it was back then. However, it should be noted that the book holds solid and relevant case questions too. But finally, my recommendation to the individual interested in pursuing a career as a management consultant, would be for that person to find him- or herself some other book. The 30 pages containing 15 commonly used frameworks should be easy enough to cover for, and for those of the case questions that seem relevant, there are alternative sources for them too. Alas.

Summary: This is the only management consulting book you'll need!!!
Review: This book is fabulous! Twitchell and Biswas have produced a book that will accelerate your consulting job search.

In a single volume, they have provided everything you will need to land a job in consulting. Just glance at the Table of Contents and you will quickly realize how comprehensive the book is: 1) The Management Consulting Industry; 2) The Consultant's Work and Lifestyle; 3) Insider Perspectives on Consulting; 4) Planning Your Consulting Career; 5) Mastering the Case Interview; 6) Negotiating Your Offer; and finally 15 Essential Frameworks, 100 Case Questions and 10 Sample Answers, and a Directory of 50 Firms. Unlike Wet Feet Press and The Vault Reports, which require you to buy multiple books to get a complete picture, this book provides everything you need to learn about the consulting industry and master the case interview in ONE VOLUME.

And if you're looking for a personal, insider's perspective, you can't beat this book. Not only do Biswas and Twitchell provide insight into their own experience as consultants, they have also devoted close to 100 of the 300 pages to original essays written by the founding partners and managing directors of the world's top consulting firms: McKinsey, Booz-Allen, Bain, BCG, Monitor, Mercer, Mitchell Madison, Arthur D Little, Andersen, Watson Wyatt Worldwide, The Wilkerson Group, Vertex, and many more... It is truly an impressive list - and surely, if you're planning to interview with any of these firms, you had better read up on what they've written!

I know there are a lot of books out there on consulting, but this is by far the best I've seen yet. As the Worldwide Managing Director of Bain said about the book, "Management Consulting is a must-read!"

Summary: A Good Beginner Level Introduction
Review: This book is very informative. It presents the past and present history of the profession and discusses what it takes to survive in the management consulting industry. It demystifies the interview and job application process. Its discussions on passing Case Interviews are particularly well done - potential consultants can now study up on those frameworks management consultants used to dissect, organize, and analyze a difficult case problem. It also provides 100's of case study questions so that the potential applicant can now be more prepared when applying for a position. This book is simply indispensible.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: useful
Review: This is a useful guide, though can be a bit simplistic at times. Still, it is worth reading, particularly if you are very new to the industry. Also recommended for consulting careers are the Vault Guide to the Case Interview and the Vault Guide to the Top 50 Consulting Firms.
