Summary: Hillary is dangerous--but you already knew that.
Review: As a disclaimer, let me say that I am a fan of Laura Ingraham's, but I am NOT a fan of Hillary Clinton. You might think that would translate into a rave review for this book, but it doesn't. The basic construct of each chapter is to take a liberal position, demonstrate how Hillary embodies it, and then offer a body of evidence rebutting the position and proving that Clinton is anti-democratic, anti-woman, anti-choice and anti- nearly everything else good and decent. It should be a devastating critique, but it isn't--what comes across is a loosely connected series of chapters with talking points and arguments that suggest Hillary is the personification of what's wrong with America today. And that's the problem--Ingraham would have been more persuasive if she had focused on the most egregious of Hillary's flaws instead of trying to indict Clinton on everything under the sun. Despite the fact that Ingraham litters the book with facts and data (most of which are nice tidbits for any argument you may get into with a Clintonista), it all gets monotonous very quickly and can even seem a little petty at times. All in all, it is a quick, readable political book (think "beach book") with several very good standalone chapters, but it doesn't deserve a place on the conservative bookshelf pantheon. Save that for something from Bork, Schlafly or Buckley.

Summary: A Comparison
Review: At first glance Ms. Ingrahams hypothisis of dependancy it fascinating. She agurgues her case and come close to convincing me. Then however wecome to a stop. Her arguement that Hillary has only got where she has today through her husband may have merit, but can we all please remember that George Bush Jn. had even less experience on entering the White House. He got to his position depending on his father and brother, we can not lambast Hillary for something which we praise George for. In writing this book in the first place Laura Ingraham becomes that which she hates the most, in writing a defence of feminism she fails herself and her cause through only criticising a woman. This culture of dependancy is prevelant in every part of society, and in the opinion of this reviewer is nothing more than a thinly veiled bout of liberal bashing.

Summary: The Hillary Trap Rocks the First Lady's World
Review: At first I was skeptical about the publication of yet another book about Mrs. Clinton, but The Hillary Trap has something for everyone who is curious about the never-ending allure of the Clintons. Ingraham moves the debate about Hillary beyond scandal rehash to a serious and pithy dissection of Hillary's political agenda--along with her personal/power-hungry decision to stand by The First Cheat. The chapters are organized as a series of political and cultural "traps" Hillary has created for herself--the antigun trap and sisterhood trap were my favorites! On page after page, I found myself saying "yes! I especially enjoyed reading Ingraham's anecdotes about her own life and how her family and political experiences shaped the way she looks at the world (and the one Hillary would have us live in). I found that page after page explodes the myth of Hillary Clinton as self-reliant, independent, feminist icon and reveals her to be the opposite. I never thought of it this way before reading this book, but Hillary belongs in the Smithsonian! The woman clings to an outmoded way of thinking, one where all women are victims in need of govt protection, where individual liberty should give way to the liberal social good. I agree with Ingraham that this, combined with her pathetic and sustained defense of her hound-dog husband, proves Hillary to be not the First Feminist, but the First Hypocrite! The Hillary Trap offers an important warning: Women and Men Beware--Mrs. Clinton's social and political "solutions" for children and families will pull you right down into the same mindless groupthink that has kept her stuck in the intellectual quicksand of the late 1960s. A perfect book for anyone who wants substantive artillery in the ongoing Hillary debate. I bought two copies--one for my son, a college freshman; and one for my sister still believes Hillary is misunderstood!

Summary: Preaching To The Choir
Review: I started listening to Laura's radio show right after September 11th and I've become a total "Laura addict." She's funny, smart and unpretentious--what more can we ask from a radio talk show host? So when I discovered that she had written a book--and about the Former First Lady Queen Hillary no less--I went immediately to amazon.com to buy it. Not only does Laura give us all the insights we need to prepare for Hillary's bid for the White House, she peppers the book with her own life stories and vignettes about her family, her college experiences, her work in the cable television world. This is much, much more than another book about Hillary. This is indispensable for anyone who is concerned about our country's future.

Summary: The Laura Ingraham Trap
Review: In David Brock's confessional "Blinded By The Right "
he states that Laura Ingraham " was the only person I knew who never seemed to own a book or regularly read a newspaper. " Well, with that less then sterling reference I still was curious as to Laura's book " The Hillary Trap " and as a woman how she would write about Hillary Clinton. Though, all in a concerted effort to get as many differently faceted sides as possible concerning one of America's unarguably true lightening rods and a former first lady who seems to bring out an extremely passionate debate. Whether you care for Hillary or not ( long considered #1 on the Conservatives hit parade! ) she does bring out the best and worst instincts in America's voters. A fascinating subject indeed! Now, with all that being said...Laura's book ( I promise to stay away from obvious hot button words such as 'screed' or 'diatribe' though they both may apply! ) is interestingly enough not about anything close to a political analysis or even a respectable biography but, oddly enough, it seems to written as a character study of our former first lady. It seems as though our author simply abhors Ms. Clinton though not just for her very politics ( though I'm certain she'll get around to that eventually ) but for how Ms. Ingraham feels Hillary has obtained her unique position in life and the temerity, Laura mistakingly feels, of actually having advanced to her position solely due to her marriage. Ms. Ingraham seems to lack a complete understanding of her subjects intellect ( or perhaps simply refuses to acknowledge Hillarys mental acumen. It's difficult to tell in this book ) Either way Laura makes the classic mistake of underestimating her opponent! Apparently no area is off hands for our Ms. Ingraham and I find this sad little book little more then an attempt at 'character assasination.' Laura ceaselessly warns the reader that Hillary epitomizes the very essence of evil and that young women should be extremely careful not to choose her as a role model. Right! And perhaps young women this country over should look upon Ms. Ingraham as an upstanding figure of virture and morals. What Ms. Ingraham fails to recognize is simply by virtue of beating your subject verbally over the head as often as she seems to do ( and sadly seems to take great pleasure in ) she fails not only to bring a new and insightful understanding of Hillary but, in some cases, even evokes her as a martyr/victim when raked over the proverbial coals by this author. I was initially hoping for a book that delved into Hillary Clintons life and provided an intellectual source of understanding and empathy perhaps with just a little philosophizing. But, and again sadly, Laura simply 1) dislikes her subject so much that she simply cannot be bothered with any amount of empathy and true insight much less understanding or 2) I suspect our author does not possess the intellectual 'cajones' to do justice to this fascinating figure. Ms. Ingraham may be an extremely bright woman but she seems to be living in an intellectual vacuum when writing about Hillary Clinton. A clear cut case of Laura not being able to 'see the forest through the trees.' Lastly, and this certainly puts Ms Ingraham's very own character in question, I find it ironic that Ms. Ingraham is able to greatly profit financially from a subject that she so obviously feels reprehensible about. If our author truly showed any real principle and integrity ( something she feels her subject lacks in spades ) about her loathing of Hillary Clinton how is it possible for her to accept money from a subject that she so readily admits having no respect for. Well, apparently it's fine for her to 'prostitute' her less then admirable writing talents and attempt to crucify Ms. Clinton... all the while raking in large amounts of cash. Obviously while she may severely dislike Hillary our author is far from being proud enough to use her as a source of income. Laura's next book may wish to concentrate on her very own psyche and character. A classic study in self-loathing.

Summary: Deserves NO Stars
Review: Instead of using this form of expression to do some good, Ingraham decides to attack one of the only Senators who actually is doing some good for this country. I have met Laurah Ingraham, and she is nothimg more than a hollow shell filled with uninformed opinions passed on by conservative Harvard professors. I cannot think of a single justifiable reason as to why she should have been given the chance to become a pundit. This female Rush Limbaugh has no opinions of her own, and I had a chance to argue with her back in 2001, proving my point. She just kept throwing the same arguements about why liberals are "evil" (direct quote), and that she thought that anyone not supporting her views was either undeucated, ignorant, or even worse, undeserving of the right to be called an American citizen (another direct quote). Her suprisingly one-sided views betray an educated exterior (unless you mention her passing illegal information about the Lewinsky investigation to Matt Drudge. Try it for a good laugh), and show just how closed-minded these so-called "pundits" can be. Don't buy this book and give her another excuse to express these horrifically biased lies.

Summary: The Laura Trap
Review: It is tragic-comedic projection - that Ms. Ingraham (whose early career included a stint as an underling to Clarence Thomas)would attempt to portray Hillary Clinton as a 'victim'- of her male-dominated relationships. If you must read this book, please first read 'Blinded By The Right' by David Brock. If you still feel so inclined, then check Laura's book out at the local library - and save some trees! Laura and Ann Coulter are to intellectual discourse - what Clarence Thomas is to truth. Sadly, underneath all of the tokenism, hypocrisy and 'trial lawyer-turned celebrity' veneer - we are left with a hollow shell.

Review: Laura Ingraham poses an interesting thesis: Hillary Clinton uses the language designed to "liberate" the masses of women in America, yet her policies are less likely to do so. For instance, low-class Sen. Hillary Clinton often speaks of a need for a "village" to raise a child, but in doing so, Ingraham points out, this means taxes must be higher, which decreases the independence of women, and places one's child in a stranger's hands--a child-care provider, which is a necessittee considering our high-tax system (reaching a federal income tax maximum of 35% as of this writing, but was 39.6% when Ingraham published her book). Similarly, it is also true with other areas--such as self-defense. Hillary Clinton believes that women should not be able to defend themselves, and should instead, while being raped or abused, to accept their victimhood or try to call the police by dialing 9-11, which is not practicle considering police officers cannot be everywhere. Of course, in Hillary's world, this is not a problem since she has Secret Service protection and lives in an upscale neighbhorhood in New York. The prose is not of the highest quality in this book. It seems that the writer is using the same tone that she would on her radio show, which takes away from the quality of the book. There is a difference between a spooken and written voice, and that is a major defefiency here. Also, it is important to recognize that while Ingraham is talking about Hillary Clinton, her focus is not necessarily exclusively on her. She is criticizing elite women--those who subscribe to the views of the National Organization for Women, the university professors, female anchors at major news networks (excluding Fox News), and those who work for liberal think tanks or female Democratic Members of Congress. Overall, it is a good book, although it does lack the quality I have experienced in other conservative books such as Ann Coulter. It lacks the superb logic, researched material, and ability to seriously call one's political opponents for what they are: usurpers of power. -- Michael Gordon

Summary: It's the results that count
Review: Laura Ingraham, television pundit, has written a book that is not a Hillary hit piece, despite what one might think from the title. Instead, she has crafted a very readable volume which critiques the policies which Hillary Clinton and her liberal allies espouse. These policies are analyzed from the perspective of what they actually bring about, rather than from the stated intentions of the policies. Ingraham brings a decidedly feminine perspective to her work. She concentrates specifically on what it means to women if Hillary and those who support her were to have their way and implement their desired policies on the nation. She argues persuasively that these alleged feminist policies do not in fact empower women, but rather encourages them to change one dependency for another- from one dependency on men to another on big government. Through the use of real life examples, studies, and statistics, Ingraham shows that it is the policies of Republicans and conservatives that offer women (and men for that matter) true empowerment and independence. An easy read, The Hillary Trap is recommended for anyone who wants to have some factual ammo to engage the emotion based arguments of liberals.
