Summary: Practical, Realistic, Insightful
Review: I strongly recommend The Leader's Guide for several reasons. It is well thought out since it covers most of the events that a manager/supervisor encounters throughout the day. It also addresses the vexing strategic issues one must keep an eye on. Finally, the book is simply well written--easy to read, easy on the eyes, and easy to implement.

Our organization, a large publically held company, is using this in our leadership development classes because it is so useful.

Summary: Poor treastise on leadership
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed The Leader's Guide because it was so straightforward, easily presented, and thorough in the 15 skills needed by a manager. It is different than most books because it accepts the many theories on leadership, but doesn't address each of them individually. It simply gives the reader the relevant info that is needed today on the job.

The author's credentials as a consultant, manager, and Army officer go far in my mind in accepting this book as one of the best in explaining what a new manager, experienced manager, or team member needs to know.

Strongly recommend it.

Summary: A well-thought out book on leadership
Review: I thoroughly have enjoyed this book because it takes the reader through the beginning skills needed as a manager to the advanced skills needed to guide the organization as a leader. Throughout the book, there is much emphasis of the interaction between management and leadership and how they are intertwined. One of the themes of the book is that to be an effective leader, it is essential to know a few selected skills, but know them in a leadership context. You will certainly learn a lot from this innovative work.

Summary: Great Overview and On Target
Review: I thought I knew all I needed to know about leadership and management, but this book has added to my skills. It is easily read and covers all the areas needed in my role as a mid-level manager. I especially liked the categorization of leadership skills into 3 broad-but realistic-areas.

All of my team members will have this book on their desk.

Summary: Successful Leadership and Management Go Hand in Hand
Review: Leaders and managers often lose sight in their busy lives of the vital responsibilities they have in leading their teams and managing their commercial, not-for-profit, and community organizations. "The Leader's Guide: 15 Essential Skills," is an innovative new release from The Oasis Press that will show new and experienced leaders alike how a step-by-step and comprehensive process of 15 indispensable leadership skills will lead them and their organizations to success.

Endorsed by a dean at Columbia Business School and the former Chief of Staff of the U. S. Army, "The Leader's Guide" stresses the importance of leaders and the positive influence they can have on the organization and its members. It goes further by showing in detail how to lead your team to success by learning and practicing a combination of technical and analytical skills, relationship skills, and strategic skills, says author Randall D. Ponder.

By serving as a manager in business, a consultant, and an Army officer, Ponder knows firsthand the pivotal effect leaders can have on organizations. A Columbia Business School graduate, he is the president of Ponder Management Consulting, Inc., which is devoted to helping organizations succeed through the development of their leaders.
