Rating: Summary: A toolbox for sparking new ideas Review: "UNSTUCK" is a stylish resource for generating new ideas. Though many of the suggestions or tools may seem obvious, everyone needs a reminder of the basics from time to time. This book is not only pleasing to look at, it's a great guide for developing new ideas to get you or your team unstuck. I'm a solo professional working with other professionals so though the "team" concept doesn't necessarily apply, I find many of the tools helpful for sparking new ideas and ways to approach problems. It's not a linear book as you can choose how to make your way through it based on what you're experiencing in your business. A great addition to my business book library.Denise Wakeman, Chief Implementor, www.NextLevelPartnership.com
Rating: Summary: Great book for re-thinking problems Review: I definitely found the content of this book very unique and worthy of a review. If UNSTUCK is one thing, it's different. The organizational model, presented at the start of the book, is beautiful in its simplicity and pertinence to business. The writing throughout the book is cogent. The page design is top-notch - and very much adds to the concepts presented throughout the book. I really enjoyed this book. I am already turning to it for ideas.
Rating: Summary: Better then WD-40 Review: I didn't even realize just how stuck I was until I read UNSTUCK. This book serves as a leaping off point to get things moving once again. Be it your organization, yourself, a relationship- the concepts seem to work in all areas. This book will get you to think and act in ways that may not be comfortable at first, but the results are worth while. Keep a copy on you at all times!
Rating: Summary: A fresh, inventive read. Review: I have not stopped returning to Unstuck since I read it 2 weeks ago. In very clear terms, the book helps you craft a road map to get your team (or your entire organization) on track. The first quarter of the book walks you through a series of diagnostic tools in which you assess your predicament. You leave with a clear diagnosis of how you're stuck - or, at the least, important insight into some of the "root causes." The authors call these the Serious Seven. The remainder, and majority of the book, provides dozens of tools, ideas, and examples for the reader to weave together based on their goals. Each page is a refreshing look at leadership, problem-solving, and system dynamics. Unstuck provides no overall panacea (read: if you need someone to tell you what to do, Unstuck is probably not for you). Rather, it presents the reader with a fresh, inventive toolkit to approach the all-to-familiar snags in work and life.
Rating: Summary: Strong recommend for anyone who leads teams. Review: I have to say I was a bit skeptical when I heard "innovation in business literature" and "fun" in the description of UNSTUCK. When a colleague shared her advance copy of the book with me, I was ready for critique. Let's just say I haven't been this impressed with a business title in years. The books design is refreshing and playful, while the content is founded on theory, case studies, and historical examples... just what you'd expect from a Yale professor and renowned designer. For anyone that's been leading teams for 10 years, it's virtually impossible to avoid exhaustion. UNSTUCK is a re-charge-filled with ideas, perspective, and suggestions to keep my team engaged and doing great work. It reminds me why doing this in the first place. A strong recommend.
Rating: Summary: All Jazz, no Substance Review: I was hoping for something along the lines of The Pursuit of Wow!! What I got was a jumble of pithy aphorisms, VERY hard to read fonts, and a book that is more work to read than I bargained for. The ideas are in the book I suppose, but a better editor could have made them more coherent.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable read Review: If nothing else, this was an enjoyable read. I love the concept of the design of it, which forces the reader to take an active role in the book. The format is along the lines of the "choose your own destiny" books that I loved to read as a pre-teen. Sure there are many cliches in it, but there are some thought provoking passages as well. Overall, I believe this would be a great choice for anyone looking to get out of a rut in their lives.
Rating: Summary: Great book for teambuilding Review: This book came just at the right time. My group at work, and really my whole company, was just "stuck." I cannot motivate the whole company, but the ideas in Unstuck can help to motivate my group and get us out of the rut we have been in. Some of the ideas are not new, but sometimes it is easy to forget how to get motivated and how to motivate others and a reminder is all that is needed. Unstuck is not a huge, tedious "business" book. It is small, quick to read, helpful and funny. It contains practical diagnostic tools and solutions that are as applicable to everyday life as they are to the workplace.
Rating: Summary: A very user friendly book for your business. Review: This book caught my eye immediately with the vibrant cover and it's small size. I read this book cover to cover the first time I picked it up. Then I went back through it and followed the instructions on solving my own problems. Throughout the book, there are descriptions of various problems and where to turn in the book to help you solve what you need fixed. It's very interactive and it has great graphics. This is a book that you won't be bored with. I would recommend this book for anyone - from the CEO to the new guy. Although no book can fix your problems for you, UNSTUCK is the best guide around to help you.
Rating: Summary: Avoid, Avoid, Avoid Review: This book is silly. You could get better results by buying a bag of fortune cookies, saving the fortunes from the cookies, taping them to a dartboard, and throwing a dart. With that approach, you could have had cookies, too.
