Summary: A must read for people with MS and people who love them
Review: This book is both humorous and serious; answers many concerns for the MS'er and family - an all-around great book to keep and reference as needed. It deals with everyday problems, concerns, etc. from the patient's point of view, but also has many items of interest for the families. Neurologists and other MD's would benefit from reading this book and referring it to their MS patients and families.

I am the mother of an MS daughter in her mid-30's who was diagnosed 10 yrs. ago. She's been mostly in remission until the last year or so, when she was on Prednisone three times in a 6-month period for "episodes" and fatigue, and has been on daily injections of Copaxon since early June. I bought this book on the recommendation of a relative whose daughter also has MS and have now ordered a copy of this and "Living Beyond MS" by the same author for my daughter. I am keeping my copy as a reference.

Summary: Good for womyn with more severe MS then I have
Review: This book is well-written, but I can't really relate to it. I guess I'm lucky. I've had MS since 1988 and still have relapsing-remmitting MS.

I don't have any cognitive problems due to MS and work full time as well as performing the usual household chores. My main symptom is bad balance. I used to have nausea a lot, but that's rare now.

But womyn whose disease is progressing would probably find this book helpful.

To all my sisters and brothers with MS, I send you love, healing and Bright Blessings!...

Summary: It's a sad, funny, truthful, wonderful book!
Review: This book made me laugh and cry as well as helping me realize that I am not the only woman who suffers from MS. It is thoughtfully and truthfully written when the bitter truth is told. It gave me hope. I would recommend it to anyone with MS as well as caregivers.

Summary: Pass This One Up
Review: This book should really be called "Women Who Have No Life Except Multiple Sclerosis". While I admire the courage of these women in their willingness to talk publicly about their disease, I don't reccomend anyone read this book. People wanting to know more about MS will think that the disease makes you appalingly self-absorbed (and prone to repeat silly untruths about the disease -- like the "uncanny" number of similarities MS patients have, like eye and hair color) while women with MS will be terrified that the disease will make them, too, banal.

I hope writing this book was therapeutic for these women, but it's not a therapeutic read for anyone else. At first I thought I'd donate it to the library book sale, but on second thought I decided to recycle it with my newspapers. Nobody should risk this discouraging read.

Summary: I'M GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE!
Review: Well any of you that have MS will know exactly what I mean by the title of the review. I ordered this book from Ireland at the end of December and was delighted to recieve it the first week in January. I picked it up two days ago to read and could not put it down until I finished it at 1.30 a.m this morning.

It is so enlightening to read the experiences of all who particpated in the book, and to know that what I have experienced - you have also experienced - despite the Doctors telling me - "well that has nothing to do with M.S., be it my poor swallow, the MS hug, the pain in my face, the electrical sensations, or just the plain old fatigue!" Which my neurologist says there is no such thing as! Fatigue that is!. The stories are so common place with MS and I am delighted that you all have much the same temprament as myself, which I think the majority of MS patients have - - it is not a death sentance - its a life sentance, so therefore, we have to live with it whether we like it or not. And who could possible like it? You have truly inspired me ladies, and I am strongly thinking of setting something similiar up in Ireland. If you want to know something about MS - ASK SOMEONE WITH MS. I look forward to reading more of your books. By the way I havent been able to read a book in such a long time, but I think perhaps the short paragraphs made it a lot easier, as you know when your eyes start jumping on a page its almost impossible to find your place again. Keep up the good work, and for anyone who is thinking about purchasing this book - don't think - buy it now. I have a list of 10 of my friends who are waiting to read this plus family members.
Yours in M.S. Elaine.

Summary: A wonderful book that's a MUST-READ for all female MSers!
Review: What a WONDERFUL book! Judy has done a marvellous job of telling 20 different women's stories -- their varying symptoms, their joys and challenges, their abilities to laugh at life's ups and downs. The "Froup" should be very proud of their "sisterhood." I was so impressed with the book that I'm ordering 4 more for family and friends who would enjoy reading it. I will also send messages to the 4 MS Society chapters I've worked with and encourage them to keep several copies on their shelves. I highly recommend this book to EVERY woman diagnosed with MS, whether recently diagnosed or an "oldtimer." I also recommend it to spouses or significant others, and families and friends of MSers. It's VERY easy to understand and makes for delightful reading.

Summary: Not the book to read for the newly diagnosed....
Review: When you are first diagnosed with such a horrible illness and only know about the extreme signs and symptoms, it hits you hard. You need time to understand possible outcomes other than the chronic progressive cases. You need to go through the steps of grieving as well. When you first read a book such as this, you very well might think that all ms cases suffer as badly as these women. I am a fairly new diagnosed case and it took me a while to figure out that not all wind up unable to ambulate, control their bladder, have difficulty with thought processes, etc. I first read this book right after diagnosis and did nothing but sob, thinking I would wind up as badly as these women. Not so. It very well might be a good book to read cover to cover after you developed a "thickened skin" and come to grips with the illness, but not for us "you look so good" types. You have to be psychologically ready to handle this book.
