Summary: My success story: Thank you, daddy!
Review: --------------------------------------------------

I don't remember ever not knowing how to read.

This is because when I was just a year old, my dad bought a copy of this book. After reading it, he did as instructed and wrote words in big red block print on solid, kid-proof pieces of white cardboard. And I *flew* with it. I got out of this book what my dad put into it, and then some.

I remember how much fun I had. When he came home from work, I'd beg him to pull out the flashcards: "Get the words, daddy!"

A couple years later, when my sister was 2 and I was 4, *I* taught *her* to read. She didn't initially take to it as well as I did, but I made it a game: I'd hide the flash cards around the house and send her off in search of the right words. She loved it! So if at first you don't succeed, you can modify the system to suit your baby.

At about the same time, I entered kindergarten. I remember wondering why they made such a big deal about my ability to read. After all, as surprising as it was to them, it was nothing unusual to *me*!

Flash forward 20 years. Where am I in 1999? I'm a very successful graduate student at Boston University. Merit scholarships have taken me right through college. I've worked hard to achieve my many successes -- and thanks to my dad, I began on the right foot.

Did I benefit from this book? Yes. When I have children, will I teach them by this system? Absolutely. This is the kind of gift keeps on giving. Your child will cherish it for years to come.

Summary: Planting the seed of Learning Early
Review: 22 years ago I planted a seed for learning, when I read Dr. Doman's book and taught my son to read. By 2 1/2 he was reading Dr. Seuss's books and by 5 he was reading the newspaper. I believe his early ability to understand and relate to the world around him gave the confidence he needed to succeed in education. He just graduated with honors, from a top liberal arts college. He is well-rounded individual who's varied interest and love for learning seems endless.

Summary: This Book Taught Me How to Read
Review: 23 years ago, this book taught ME how to read. My father used the techniques outlined in this book and the results were nothing short of miraculous. I have been an avid reader all my life. I began to read when I was two and a half years old and read at a college level when I was in the fifth grade. Reading not only brings me great personal enjoyment, it has aided me throughout my years in school as well as in my professional life. I guess I'm a testimonial to the fact that the techniques worked! I read some of the other reviews claiming that children taught through Domans' methods have a difficult time with language later on in their life--on the contrary, I speak two foreign languages!

Summary: One is not born a genius, one becomes a genius.-S.deBeauvoir
Review:

This is one of the most useful and enlightening childrens books on the market. Glenn Doman has a masterfully developed program that has been used successfully for decades. I was taught to read at 12 months old and my life has been greatly enriched by it. I have now used this book to demonstrate the genius of children to countless parents in my community. Enjoy your children and give them the gift of reading

Summary: Excellent tools for teaching your child to read.
Review: After reading the book, I made flash cards for my child. She learned just as quickly as the book said she would. I was amazed. Following the teaching program in the book I was able to have my 17 month old reading short sentences on her own. I encourage mother's, with the time, to buy this book and get your children reading. There's no better gift.

Summary: I am proof that it works! - and I still use phonics
Review: Don't believe that if you use this method that your child will suffer by not being able to use phonics. My mother used this method with me as a child. When I went to first grade my teeacher asked if I knew how to read, I said I didn't, but then I sat down and read aloud, from one cover to the other, one of those "Dick and Jane" books!, Needless to say, I was moved up to second grade for reading. In fourth grade I scored at a twelfth grade level in reading on standardized tests. I read constantly, often a book a day. And contrary to popular belief that if you don't teach your child to read using phonics, they will not be able to spell, or be able to read words they haven't "memorized" is ridiculous. I have always been a very strong speller, and I think that I pretty much learned phonics by just reading alot, children are not so dull as to not realize which letters contribute certain sounds to a word when they see them over and over again. I have two young sons, and I certainly plan on teaching them with this method.

Summary: Buy it!
Review: Even if you don't "believe" you can teach a baby to read, this book is well worth it. It gives you advice on how to encourage your baby to improve and you to improve as parent. Those who criticize the technique obviously never read the book. The author encourages any baby the opportunity to read regardless of the technique. The only reference to phonics is that it is not needed, as your baby will know how to read before phonics can be started. The only complaint I have is the parent/baby relationship is always referred to as mother and son. Though up front the author says that sexism is not intended, it would not have been that difficult for it to be rewritten not to imply it.

Summary: More info to share
Review: For most of you, buying the book and reading it will not be enough. It's almost like dieting and only the most dedicated parent will do it. I've personally taught two of my friends the techniques and so far an 18 month is already starting to read while a 24 month was able to read 200 chinese characters. But sadly my 32 month old can not read. Which is okay, because of the info I know but I have read all five of his books and gone to 80 hours of seminar as well as signed up for 1 year of phone call questions. It is a rare child/parent combination that can read the book (how to teach your baby too read) and do it without any other help. This book is less than 1% of what Glenn Doman group knows about brain growth. This is a good book, however I recommend you read "What to Do about Your brain-Injured Child" first. This well give you an overview of the Glenn and his group as well as a glimpse of what they are doing. The most important book to get for young children if you want an intelligent child is "..the physically superb book". Yes, this is contrary to what most of us think, until you understand how complex moving ones body is. By us working on our own son, his vocabulary is far superior than any 32 month old I've seen. This is because his respiratory system is very advanced among other reasons. After that it is this book. I recommend the most dedicate parent sign up for the reasonably priced seminar. You can find their web site at www.iahp.com. From my experience, Glenn Doman is a leader in the area of child brain growth. He's been doing it for something like 40 years and I highly recommend his seminar that is always full, so book fast. Good luck to you all and remember his number one rule of "JOYOUSNESS". lesgee@juno.com

Summary: Amazing! It works, Its easy, and It's so worth it!
Review: Glenn Doman has mastered the complexities of neurological development. A by-product of this mastery is this wonderful book. My wife and I have used this book, and our son was reading ANYTHING at three years of age. The concepts in this book are not only valuable from a reading standpoint, but from a total developmnet standpoint as well.
A must read for new parents that care about the future of their children.
