Review: "...a moving, thorough, and honest resource for anyone who knows and/or loves a law enforcement officer". Partners Off Duty.

"I Love a Cop provides such worthwhile information that police administrators should seriously consider making it required reading for promotional examinations". FBI Magazine.

Summary: A must read for law enforcement families
Review: A pretty good look at how families can deal with having an officer in the family. I also recommend "BOOT: An LAPD Officers Rookie Year," by Dunn for insight into the difficulties of police work.

Summary: Informative tool for the burnt out cop and their family
Review: An informative tool for the rookie, police psycs, or burnt out peace officers suffering from the effects of working in law enforcement. NOTE! Before letting you family read this book, sit down with them and explain the good and bad of your profession and warn them this does not classify all cops; especially if you are new to the field, don't currently suffer from the illustrated effects, or your family doesn't fully understand what you do. Otherwise your family, especially the spouse may think you are doomed for failure and may question your choice of careers. I have been in law enforcement for five years and have delt with my issues without bring them home. Having purchased the book to get some good pointers, just in case, my spouse read it and got down right scared of what COULD happen to us; even though we haven't had any problems so far and in fact have been doing quite well. I was under interrogation for weeks and was even temporarily ordered to find a diffrent line of work. Luckily verbal judo prevailed! Beware.

Review: As the instructor of the local Police Academy "Family Class", I found Ellen's book to be absolutely right on the mark. She addresses the difficult issues faced by officers and their families, especially as regards the psychological and personality changes that occur when an officer enters this field. We recommend it to every family, and to long-term officers as well. It is excellent!!

Summary: GREAT BOOK
Review: At last someone has put words to the emotions, confusion, pain, and reality of living with a cop! Ellen Kirschman has helped me in three days more than two years of "counseling" by someone who just had no clue what it was really like. As I read I kept saying to myself "No wonder!" and "Wow! That's me!" If you love a cop, (or fighter pilot, or soldier, or firefighter, or EMT) or love someone who does, PLEASE buy yourself this book. It is priceless.

Summary: A very helpful tool for the spouse of a police officer
Review: Being the wife of a police officer, it's sometimes difficult to fully understand what our loved one goes through at work. My husband was involved in critical incidents while on the job, and this book helped me to understand both what he was going through, and how I could help. I think this book should be required reading for spouses of both rookie officers and police veterans! It covers various topics - all very helpful and important.
