Summary: AWESOME ADDITION TO HOMESCHOOL LIBRARY
Review: "Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we fail not." GALATIONS 6:9, KJV

Being a mum is hard. So much multi-tasking is required. What if you add the responsibility of your children's education into the mix? It certainly makes for an interesting life. It doesn't have to be unattainable though. Christine Field has come up with a practical guide to leading a balanced life whilst providing the best education for your child.

This book would be great for both the experienced homeschooling parent and the novice Homeschooler. It gives wonderfully practical advice about keeping your sanity when things seem to be overwhelming, how to avoid burnout, and brings it all back to what God says in his Word. I loved what she had to say about making a mission plan and that homeschooling could be even considered a "calling". WOW!

This book has made me feel better about our decision to homeschool our children. It would be a great addition to any homeschoolers bookshelf.

Summary: For Fundamentalist Christians Only
Review: I found this book to be profoundly unhelpful to me as a non-Christian, secular homeschooler. The author assumes that everyone who homeschools is a fundamentalist Christian. There might actually be some good advice in her book, but I couldn't find it for having to wade through biblical quotes and sermonizing about the moral superiority of Christians, etc. The real pity is that I enjoyed Field's book A Field Guide To Homeschooling in which, even though it was clear she was a Christian, religion did not overwhelm the main thrust of the book. I wanted to like this book as well, since not only did I really like the Guide (especially the wonderful resource lists), but I am also an attorney turned homeschooler like Field. Christians, especially of a more fundamentalist stripe, may well find solace in the pages of this book. My suspicion is that most others will find the advice a little thin and hard to swallow.

Summary: small house but made room
Review: I live in a very small house with large boys, and this one is worth keeping on the shelf-- leans toward Conservative Christianity, but as a liberal Christian, found it tolerable-- worthy buy -- even as a new book!

Summary: Great book - like a good friend!
Review: I'm buying my own copy so the library can keep their copy for others to read! It's one of the best books for homeschoolers on the market!

To Andreaadam - most Christian homeschoolers don't separate those two aspects of their life - we usually make Christ the center of our homes and the learning that takes place therein.

To Sandship - everything I've ever read on the subject shows that the majority of homeschoolers are Christian so you can assume that most homeschooling books such as this are from a Christian viewpoint.

Summary: Tranquility is Possible
Review: Life as a homeschooling mother, while blessed, can be hectic at times. Do you want to know the "cure"...the true solution...the easy solution???? Read Mrs. Field's book! The answer is simple and, while she doesn't give the answer in one bold sentence on page ??, you will find the answer in your heart upon completion of the book. This book is literally filled with scriptures from the Holy Bible. Those scriptures are related to homeschooling in a way that brings tears to the eyes, joy to the heart, and peace to the soul. This book will grace my library shelves for years to come and will be referred to often. I highly recommend this book to any and all.
