Summary: How Children Fail
Review: In "How Children Fail" John Holt gives his perceptions about how children to fail. He takes the reader into the classroom and gives accurate accounts of children's fear to fail. He takes you through what has trained them into this behavior. Their fear encourages them to grasp strategies that hide their learning shortcomings. Holt believes that teachers have been trained to entice learning but promote failure. The teachers are described as faulty. Their teaching methods do not adjust to changing generations of children. It is not just teachers but schools that are contributing to the diminishing of learning. However, Holt assures his audience that real learning does exist.
I recommend this book to teachers, parents, and students. I give it 4 stars for it's easy to read format and descriptiveness. I think if enough people read it Holts insight will heighten our awareness and stop children's fear of failure.

Summary: How Children Fail
Review: Anyone who wants to go into teaching should read the book How Children Fail by John Holt. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars. This book shows many strategies about how children can be taught to learn easier. Do not be fooled by the title of the book as I was at first. When I first read the title I thought it would be some guy's opinion on why children fail. I was wrong; this book shows ways students learn strategies that do not involve actually learning the material. It also tells how the administration and teachers of schools cause children to fail. All the information gathered is from the observations Holt makes and they are very well documented. Anyone who may be teaching a class should also read this book to help them teach things better to those who are not learning as well. It can also help teachers to evaluate class and let them know if the students are actually learning the material being taught. After reading this book, I also realized how many teachers let students get away with passing a class without actually knowing the material. This book points that the education system in this country needs to be re-evaluated. The only bad thing about this book is I believe it could get into too much detail in parts making it boring. It also repeated a lot of the main ideas at times.

Summary: ways to haelp a child succeed
Review: At first I really did not like the book, but the further I got into the book the better it got. It helped me see children and teachers in a different perspective. Children can be very coniving little creatures. They are all the time trying to get attention from you, and to see if you are really paying attention to them. The book is mainly a journal of a man's obervations

Summary: a good lesson
Review: At first, when I previewed the book How Children Fail by John Holt I didn't like it because of the time that it was published. I thought it was going to be boring, old and useless. But, after I read the prologue of the book I thougt that it was interesting, and it was going to be a good book, from which I can learn to help my own children to do good in schooland not let them fail. As I read the last pages of the book, I rnderstood what the book was about. I decided that sometimes it's best to read books about education, even if you are not really interested in it.
This book is wrote as a series of memos,it's a good guied for other teachers to read so they can help children not to fail.
How Children Fail was and still is a good book about the education of children. No wonder why it has been around for such long time.

Summary: Insights for Teachers
Review: Being an education major I was assigned this book for a class project. It is an interesting day by day journal of author John Holt's experience as a teacher in a Colorado private school. Holt's insights are honest and convey what some of the major problems are with todays students. The book's strength comes from the way Holt sees through the eyes of children who desperately want to please the adults who teach them but, out of fear hold back their talents for learning. Although the book is sixteen years old it remains a strong indictment of our modern educational system. I strongly recommend this read for anyone entering the field of education.

Summary: Must Read For Every Parent
Review: Every parent should read this book. It gives a new view of what schools really do to our children. If it is read with a very open mind, one can see how true it is still today, and in some cases even worse! Parents please read!

Summary: How Children Fail
Review: I am a college student at Macon State College majoring in elementary education. I am currently enrolled in EDUC 1000, the Introduction to Elementary Education. At the beginning of this semester we were assigned to choose an educational book. I chose How Children Fail, and I think I really did make a good choice. As I started reading, I was not very interested because of the format of the book, the journal entries. I continued reading and began to enjoy the book more and more. As I reached the summary at the end, I was able to put all of the information I had read together and it seemed to make more and more sense. After all, I really did enjoy reading this book. It enabled me, as a future educator, to see what I can do for my future students so they will not fail. I want to make a difference in the lives of my students, so I feel that by reading this book and other educational books, I will be able to gain knowledge that I will need to know as a future educator.

Summary: Insightful
Review: I am a student at Macon State College, majoring in eduaction. I was asked to read this book for an education class. This book was riveting. The real life stories were insightful. Holt is honest and tells it like it is. Holt highlights the importance of teaching. Too many times we see teachers unwilling to take the blame for the lack of knowledge their students show. Teachers are responsible for the education of these students. Educators need to keep on trying new methods until every student understands the concept of what is being taught. Holt has lived this and his insight is priceless. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves children.

Summary: How do we teach children to learn?
Review: I give the book How Children Fail by John Holt five star. I felt that this is a well writen book about school system and teachers. John Holt took time to go into other teachers classrooms and pick up on there mistakes to improve on his teaching abilities. He also took time to analyze all the children in his own classroom, to find out what was the best way to teach them so that they will listen and learn. I feel that at some point teachers should take a look at this book to open up thier minds about teaching.
