Rating: Summary: Best practical information I've found. Review: Far and away the most helpful information I've found on the application of Charlotte Mason methods has come from this one little book. By doing a web search for both "Charlotte Mason" and "Catherine Levison", I located a wealth of information online about Miss Mason's educational methods and Mrs. Levison's other writings (a large number of websites, book lists, and even email newsletters). After reading through the online information, I was tempted to think I didn't need to actually spend money for any books on this topic. I thought the Web and a good search engine ............ was enough. But I've found that having each school subject's practical explanations individually listed in a single "hold-it-in-my-hand" resource has been a great benefit and definitely a worthwhile investment. The subjects covered in this book include: narration, literature, poetry, composition, handwriting, spelling, foreign language, grammar, science, math, art, music, history, geography, formation of habits, and more. In my humble opinion, no Charlotte Mason library or resource list is complete without A Charlotte Mason Education. It's short, but I found that only makes it more user-friendly; the practical tips aren't lost amidst other text. It's the perfect book for someone who's interested in getting down to business and "doing" Charlotte Mason methods in their home or school. The only problem I see with the book is that I wish more home schooling catalogs carried it so more people were aware of this helpful resource.
Rating: Summary: Perfect how to in a nutshell C. Mason Education Review: How thankful we were to find this little book, which is loaded with simple yet concise information on giving our children a Charlotte Mason Education. The author is insightful and personal. The book is very easy reading for those wanting a good overview with the nuts and bolts!!
Rating: Summary: A Charlotte Mason Education by Catherine Levison Review: I began homeschooling Charlotte Mason style way back...I am so jealous that this wonderful book was not here way back then! Whereas I had to look up each subject and work out a plan to homeschool with the Charlotte Mason Approach, Catherine has simplified all those areas into an easy to apply format. If you want to homeschool your children in freedom and simplicity while giving them a wonderful, well-rounded education...then this is your book to get you started! All you need to do is take this little but mighty book and begin to apply each chapter into your style of homeschooling! It is easy and you do not have to wonder if you are missing anything! Plus, you will not have to be curriculum dependent anymore!
Rating: Summary: This book was very helpful Review: I bought this book after talking to someone about Charlotte Mason style of homeschooling. I had never heard of her and wanted a quick insight into her philosophy. This book provided me with exactly what I wanted. It is short and gives a good overview of the philosophy. It does not inundate the reader with irrelevant information. I read it in one evening. I recommend it to anyone who is curious about the Charlotte Mason approach but doesn't want to spend a lot of time or money getting information.
Rating: Summary: Very Inspirational Book About Charlotte Mason Method Review: I cannot say enough about this book and it's author. I was very skeptical about this form of teaching and decided to buy this book in hopes that this form of teaching would be clarified for me...I never put the book down. It very simply answered all my questions.I now feel confident that I can teach in the Charlotte Mason style. Thank-You Catherine.
Rating: Summary: Tell Me More Review: I could tell this book was written by a homeschooling mom and not a professional writer...not because of grammar, but the book was lacking in information and flow. I know homeschooling mom's are great resources, nothing against them, I just was very frustrated with this book. I have read many books about Charlotte Mason and her methods, and I think this is the reason I was dissappointed with this book. My friend read it and learned a lot. I think Catherine Levison's second book "More Charlotte Mason" does a much better job. The second book is basically a rewrite of the first adding all the information that was missing from the first book, like more detail on Charlotte Mason and what she stood for. So if you are wanting to read this book, just skip it and read her second one.
Rating: Summary: Clear and Concise Review: I enjoyed reading A Charlotte Mason Education because it gave a clear and concise overview of what a CM education might be like. She included her own schedules and that of the PNEU schools as a guideline, but also acknowledged that many CM families are more relaxed. This book was helpful to me because it helped me to sort of "cut through" everything and get a clearer picture of how *I* wanted to do things in my family.
Rating: Summary: SO much, in such a concise book!!!! Review: I feel so privileged to have found Mrs. Levison's book!!! What a helpful tool! I was fortunate to read S.S. Macaulay's book, <For the Children's Sake>, before I started homeschooling. It was very inspiring and set me on the path towards following Charlotte Mason's educational philosophies. But it wasn't until I read Catherine's book that I was able to actually put "the vision" into action. And, she encouraged me to read Charlotte's writings for myself--something I am very thankful for! The book is very practical and just what I needed to help me not simply theorize, but actually DO IT!
Rating: Summary: Levison's Charlotte Mason Education Review: I felt that this book was choppy and poorly written, even down to the fact that the author refers to the subject as "Charlotte" rather than Charlotte Mason or Mason. It does include a lot of information about the Charlotte Mason method, but does nothing to explain to me why I should use that method myself. I would have preferred her to get to the meat of one aspect of Charlotte Mason learning, rather than try to cover everything in one little book and really skimp on every topic. I wish I had gotten it at the library instead of buying it.
Rating: Summary: Catherine's books are most helpful Review: I have really enjoyed both of Catherine's books. The first book really intrigued me and piqued my interest in the Charlotte Mason method. It was so easy to apply! In her second book, More Charlotte Mason Education, she gave us a lot more information and how-to's. I really felt like I was learning a lot from these books, and that the author was writting on a personal level to me. I recommend this book to all of my friends even those who are not currently homeschooling.
