Rating: Summary: Sanity saver Review: If, like us, you deal with the unbelieveable stress of the NICU by learning as much as you can about premature babies, this book is priceless. During the 14 weeks that our son (born at 30 weeks) was in intensive care, we referred to this book numerous times and the social workers recommended it by name. It covers all of the major problems you and your baby are likely to encounter in a clear, straightforward way that's easy to understand. When you can't quite remember what the doctor said about a certain condition, it's also a great reference. If you have to have a preemie in the hospital, I'd say you have to have this book. Now that our little boy is at home, we're still using it and I suspect we'll keep reading sections and recommending it to others for years to come. I also like the Preemie Parents' Companion.
Rating: Summary: My favorite premie book Review: In addition to what all the other reviewers say about this book's completeness, I also liked that it broke down some of the problems by each gestational age. I had a very complicated pregnancy and there was a question about how long I could keep my triplets inside, and having some sections and information broken down by gestational age helped motivate me to keep my babies in a little bit longer. I am the parent of three 29-week girls and we have covered a range of the problems described in this book. I always found it useful to refer to this book to get more information when a problem arose. I also like the Premie Parents Companion.
Rating: Summary: Great Reference for Parents of Preemies Review: My parents bought this for my husband and I two weeks ago when our little girl was born at 29 weeks. We have both found this book very helpful. My husband read is constantly while I was still hospitalized and I have been reading it since I came home. The NICU is an overwhelming place, and the nurses and doctors do their best to explain things in terms us non-medical people can understand. This book has thus far proven to be an excellent source we can reference on our own. It explains things in lay terms and the glossary in the back is excellent. If we don't understand something the nurse has told us, we just find it in this book and read on it. It has really helped to keep us calm and informed. I definately recommend this book. We will keep this book for as long as we need it and I'm sure it will continue to be helpful as our little blessing grows up.

Rating: Summary: We couldn't live without this book! Review: Our daughter was born at 28 1/2 weeks last November and spend over 6 weeks in the NICU. We knew nothing about what to expect or what the machines were or what tests they did on her, etc. We decided to do some research and found this book and it became our Bible. It had the answers to every possible question we had. It was as if it was written just for us. I found out later that other Preemie Moms I met loved this book and the March of Dimes recommends it as well.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Guide Review: This was a wonderful book that really helped me through the hardest trials of my life. I am a mother of triplets who lost one at birth and had my other two little 26 week preemie boys in the hospital for 3 months. They had a lot of complications in the months after their birth, and this book helped me understand what was going on and answered some very important questions for me. The only complaint that I have is that it tends to lend more comfort to parents with older, healthier preemies. I really wish that it would have had some more positive stories and examples for us parents of micro-preemies who were very very ill. Other than that, this book is a must have for parents of preemies.
Rating: Summary: The book for a high risk pregnancy, the NICU and home Review: We bought four books on preemies when my membranes ruptured prematurely. This and one other (by Garcia-Prats and Hornfischer) were by far the most helpful. I have consulted it again and again.
Rating: Summary: Great Informational Book Review: We picked up this book a few days after our preemie was born. She was 25 wks along and we were not prepared for this. Who would be. We have used this book on many occasions for answering questions we may have when we are away from the hospital.
It has easy to read explainations on everything. Very easy to read and use. We showed the nurse and she wants to buy this book to loan to parents that could use it. We plan on donating our book when we are finished with it so other parents can benefit from it.
Overall, it's a great feel-good type of book. Just like my new beverage of choice called s o y f e e. It's made from soybeans that you brew just like coffee. Caffeine-free, you'll find it at www. S oycoffee.com. Its pleasure reading it. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: A must-have for parents of preemies Review: What a great book! It has answered all the questions my husband and I have had about our premature baby. All the information is practical and straightforward without being negative or intimidating. The book is organized in chronological order, from before birth to bringing your baby home and beyond. It also includes useful resources for parents. We wish the book had been published when our preemie was born, but we're still finding it an invaluable resource today.
Rating: Summary: very informative Review: when my daughter was born prematurely at 29 weeks and 6 days gestation, i was devastated. i didn't know where to find information on premature babies. it was only after my baby came home from the endless days in the hospital, then i found this book. this book would have helped me if my baby were still in the NICU, because it provided a lot of information on NICU, and all the procedures and medical terms. it also would had saved me from looking so stupid in front of the doctors. overall, this book is highly recommended to all parents of preemies, especially if they are still in the NICU.
