Rating: Summary: If you only buy one book on water, this is it. Review: Excellent, specific, detailed information which you can use to make real decisions about your drinking water. How to purify it, what types of equipment are best to use for your problems, and where to turn to for help -- they're all covered. The book is very clearly written, and even when the subject matter turns technical, it doesn't take someone with a PhD in water to understand the explanation.
Rating: Summary: A comprehensive guide to all aspects of drinking water. Review: I began simply, by wanting safe drinking water for my family.
I visited water treatment plants, county health departments,
then universities and the Environmental Protection Agency. Everyone knew about particular specialties but no one
could put it all together. So I decided to do it myself, helped
by 20 years as a scientific writer. I spent 5 years (and a lot
of money) researching every aspect of drinking water:
pollutants, health risks, governmental standards for water, actual tap water quality, water testing, bottled water,
machine-vended water, home water purifiers. I tested just about every product on the market
(and found most wanting).
This book is the result. I believe it will answer any possible
questions you have about your drinking water, and guide you
to a wide variety of solutions, based on your particular needs
Rating: Summary: Good guide, but... Review: This book is certainly a good guide for people living in the US who have to face polluted drinking water in their homes, but if you are a scientist working for some time already in the field of water treatment I recommend that you keep your fingers off this book. This book is certainly written for the broad public and doesn't offer much news for the experienced reader. Especially if you live outside the US this book is not very suitable. It's just a shame that "real" engineering books are always so expensive.
Rating: Summary: Good guide, but... Review: This book is the best published guide to water treatment options. Colin has research and compared all types of technolgy for safe drinking water and his unbiased reference guide is good for every health consious consumer.
Rating: Summary: Even in 2000-Most comprehensive guide to water treatment Review: This book is the best published guide to water treatment options. Colin has research and compared all types of technolgy for safe drinking water and his unbiased reference guide is good for every health consious consumer.
Rating: Summary: The best drinking water book you can buy Review: This book is well named, since it is the definitive book on drinking water. It includes extensive information on water contaminants, water testing, bottled water, and home purification systems. The information is well-researched, easy to read, and well-formatted, with simple charts and diagrams supplementing the text where necessary. I bought several books on drinking water at the same time, and this one was clearly superior to all the others. Don't waste time and money; buy this book first!
