Summary: One of the Most Important Books I've Ever Read
Review: It's hard to say enough about this powerful book. You will be energized by the hope and vitality of the authors, and sickened by the incredible amounts of dangerous, polluted waste they state certain corporations dump in our rivers just to save a few bucks. The authors' view that all of us have a right to a clean, safe environment (especially waterways) is right on! Please read this book...it will shake the sleep from your eyes and spur you on to make a difference in this world.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: Outstanding story of local folks fighting to restore a part of thier region's heritage. A great how-to type book for anyone interested in fighting polluters. I learned a lot about the Hudson River, environmental law and industrial and governmental polluters. I've read this book three times and have gotten something new out of it at every sitting. A must read - especially the last chapter!

Summary: One of the best
Review: Quite simply one of the best books written on local environmental activism in recent years. Through personal stories and reflections, the authors demonstrate why they became driven to protect the Hudson River from those that would literally steal the resource from the people of the region.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: An ego-trip
Review: Reading this book, it would appear that Cronin and Kennedy alone are responsible for the slow resurgence of the Hudson. You'd hardly guess from reading this book that thousands of other activists stand shoulder to shoulder with these celebrity environmentalists. What an ego-trip. What total self-absorbtion. Disheartening.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: An interesting human story about two activists
Review: The criticism that people expected more about the Hudson River and Environmentalism may be justified to some extent. But what these critics missed is that this is a story about two people's journey into the world of environmental protection and litigation. Both men influenced by their "love" of the Hudson River and one also by his family's legacy. There really are some shocking stories about the actions of corporations and local authorites which should concern us all no matter where we live. I enjoyed particulary seeing how Robert F Kennedy Jr has come terms with his family's legacy and carried it on in his own way. A good read if you want the human side of environmental action.

Summary: A must read for all
Review: The highest courage, determination and true grit (unlike the Hollywood kind) is displayed in the book "The Riverkeepers" by John Cronin and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. We owe an extreem debt of gratitude for the work that so many true patriots are involved in by improving this finited Earth we live on. May God help us if the anti environmental republicans take conrol of the Presidency as well as the Congress. You can kiss clean water, clean air and our forests good by if the "barbarions" continue to deceive the American public. If you are not convinced just read the book ---- if you have the stomach for the truth!

Summary: Save Rivers, Blame GE
Review: The RIVERKEEPERS is the most important book written in the last 15 years on the modern environmental law movement. This is the story of the battle for control of America's vital resources (i.e., water, air, and fishes,) that sustain life in this country. These resources belong to the PEOPLE, but are being taken away by large-scale private interests. This is the story of the people of New York's forty year fight to take back THEIR blessed Hudson River. If you want cleaner water and a purer democracy, you must read this book, and then go out and fight for OUR rivers. God Bless America's Rivers.

Summary: One of the Best BOOKS about the Environment I've ever read !
Review: This is a phenomenal book. If you've ever kayaked or fished the Hudson River or just looked out over it and dreamed, this is a must read. The other reviews on this page express my feelings precisely. The writing is extremely descriptive and emotional. You won't be able to put the book down.
