Rating: Summary: #1 Ferret Book, every ferret owner should have it! Review: At my pet store I influence the customers to buy this book. It gives the best information and how-to-training tips. There is first-hand information that other books don't give. For my pet ferret (Ernie) I used many tips such as toe biting and nail clipping. If you've got a ferret, you've gotta have this book! Rating: Summary: Trite, affectatious waste of ink Review: Do authors needing to start every thought with inane questions make you giggle more than thorazine? Do you have have commercial grade insulin handy for inoculations after every annacdote {which is on par with Elvis sightings?). Then this book is for you. Having raised seven and now that my girlfriend has added eight and nine ferrets I feel I a qualified to comment on the usefulness of this book - nil. We added this book to qualify for free shipping while ordering Ferrets for Dummies - a much better buy. {loads of valuable info} Read Ferrets for Dummies and if you have a bird line the bird cage with with Ms. Somerville's exercise in ferret dreaming.
Rating: Summary: This book is really great! Review: I bought this book and found it extremely helpful. I don't know where the reviewer from Toronto was coming from in the Oct.25, 1999 review! The plastic taped to the carpet worked wonders with my ferrets! Just because one ferret rips tape to get under the plastic mat doesn't mean every ferret will. Mine didn't. The great thing about this book is that it gives lots of options to try. The authors take into consideration that not all ferrets act the same...and that's why I love this book. The pictures are the best. I found the advice very practical and helpful. This book is much better than any other ferret book out there.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I was very disappointed with this book. It was filled with quite a lot of advice, but the problem is that the advice is very impractical. The book contains some cute pictures but the information provided leaves me wondering if the author has ever owned ferrets. Suggestions such as taping a mat to the carpet to prevent the ferrets from digging??? Anyone who has ever owned a ferret will tell you that a ferret will rip apart the tape in a matter seconds to get under the mat. Very little useful information is provided and could cause problems for new ferrets owners. Contrary to the previous reviews of this book, I have to say that it was not worth buying as it is impractical and often ridiculous in its offerings.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and informative Review: One of the best written books I'v read that deal with training ferrets and what to expect when you think you've you had it all figured out. This books tells of dangers that could happen, how to remedy the situation.Beautiful pictures and useful addresses of ferret organizations, I truly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone thinking of purchasing a ferret and wanted to do some research.
Rating: Summary: This book is a must have for anyone raising a ferret! Review: This book is a wonderful source of information on how to train your ferret. The information in the book is so detailed, it really does work. The section on ferret proofing your home is a necessity. The author's methods are right on track. I would highly recommend this book to ANYONE that currently has a ferret or is considering purchasing a ferret.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book on Training Ferrets Very Complete Review: This is a very complete book on training. It has a lot of good ideas and lots of questions for answers that anyone may have on training there ferret. The best book I own that is about Ferret Training.. The #1 of all training books...Very informative.
Rating: Summary: This is the best ferret book I've ever seen! Review: This is absolutely THE BEST ferret book I have ever seen. It is a wonderful training guide and tells you exactly how to live with a pet ferret on a day-to-day basis. Not only do you get practical advice on litter training, handling, walking your ferret on a leash, food and housing, etc, there are great sections that give you step-by-step information on training techniques. I like the chapter on teaching your ferret to come when he's called by using a squeaky toy. The authors tell you exactly how to go about this, step by step. And it works! The chapter on traveling with your ferret is wonderful-- all the things you would never think about are covered. Best of all, the chapter on Ferret Proofing your house or apartment is a life saver for ferrets. You have to read it! As an added bonus, there are about 80 colored photos that range from those cute shots we ferret owners expect, to details that show you what to do in each chapter. If you're a first time ferret owner, YOU NEED THIS BOOK. If you're an experienced owner, it's still great to have-- you might find a number of things that you hadn't thought about before. As I said before, this is THE BEST ferret book I've ever seen for telling an owner how to live with their pet.
Rating: Summary: Some good info in there.. Review: This isn't the best book out there for ferret information, but it does have some interesting tidbits in it and a bunch of cute pictures. I haven't been able to successfully use many of the methods talked about in the book with my ferrets, but it's possible they work for someone else. Every ferret is different! I give it four stars because some of the information is good, and the pictures are adorable. For the price, I can't complain. :)
