Summary: Recognizing Bonds
Review: I loved reading these reviews and seeing that others have been as affected by this book as I have. My father read it to me when I was 9, and I still have the copy he read from. Since I found the book here, I keep several copies on hand to give to friends who have a spark of interest. We have much to learn from our animal friends. Some of the fly, etc., communications may be a bit far out, but, hey, why not?

Summary: Life changing
Review: I read this book as a teenager, and my attitude toward and relationship with animals was forever altered. Now I am in my thirties, and I cannot even begin to convey the depth of my appreciation toward J. Allen Boone. What "Kinship With All Life" teaches is not simply Boone's personal experience with the animal kingdom: it is the human potential for unity with the natural world. Boone's deep respect and understanding of animals is very accessible and achievable as conveyed through his story, which is told frankly and from the heart. Anyone who is open to receive his message can expect to receive great spiritual benefit. By narrating the story of how he went from being a common dog trainer to having a profound connection with animals of all types, Boone taps into a level of reality and wisdom rarely recognized--a level that I believe is fundamental to our understanding of who we are in the larger scheme of things. I wish everyone could read this book, for the benefit of animals everywhere and, ultimately, the human race itself.

Summary: Mystical relationship with animals
Review: I truly believe in the kinship of all life...that all life is connected in a mysterious, spiritual way. I was hoping to gain more insight through this book about that connection, and how to achieve a deeper communication with animals. I was disappointed in this aspect; this was not really a how-to book, rather the author used his personal experiences with animals to make us contemplate and wonder about this mystery. Little by little he learned to speak to and hear his special dog, Strongheart, although it isn't clear just how he heard him. It doesn't matter, though. He shows his ignorant human side in working through this communication with animals, who seem more receptive to this ability than we are. His relationship with Strongheart is beautiful, and with Freddie the Fly delightful and thought-provoking. Yes, what a mysterious and mystical universe we live in! Who better to share it with, than the animals!

Summary: Ancient Knowledge
Review: I've witnessed old Hopi farmers singing to their crops. I've been with Navajos, while deer hunting, and watched them sing to ravens...to ask them to show them where to hunt deer. I,ve talked to coiled rattle snakes, and seen them relax...and slither away. I'm surprised at the arrogance of humans, assuming..that intelligence is an exclusive domain. This book will, I hope, open closed minds to the life around them...and encourage dialogue...with other life forms.

Summary: Delicate and profound, way ahead of its time
Review: Someone I know received an old copy of this book from the estate of an elderly English lady. What a gift! It is a series of stories about how a man learns to treat other living beings as his fellows rather than his inferiors. Sounds simple, but is it? Reading this book, one feels in contact with an open-minded and open-hearted individual, gifted with a rare willingness to be taught by life, who was rewarded richly for it. This book is both about animals and about the spiritual lessons the author receives from them. He emphasizes that it is on a spiritual level, and not the intellectual one, that "kinship with all life" is real. Certainly this book is in harmony with the great mystics of all religions, of whose teachings Boone appears to have been well aware. To think that these writings date from the 1940s and 50s! One can only admire such an individual. I finished the book with the impression that it was not only decades but perhaps centuries ahead of its time, and that it will someday be regarded as a lost classic, standing far apart from and above its age.

Summary: Boone was a metaphysical Dr. Doolittle.
Review: This book is not about zoology at all--it is about the universal gift of communication and how we use it (and fail to use it); Boone simply used animals as convenient tools to teach a very valuable lesson. It is a very quick and charming read, for adults and children--the message is not lost. I keep several copies handy for gifts, and it has always had positive results

Summary: challenging and impressive.
Review: This book stimulated much more discussion and thought than its slim contents would indicate. It broadens the concept of communication far beyond current human concepts.

Summary: To understand animals is to understand life.
Review: This book will change forever the way you look at animals and life, in general.

Summary: Yes! Weird and wonderful!
Review: This is a beautiful book. I have given it to many many friends over the years and I just bought four more copies. Interestingly, one reviewer (who gave it only one star) called it "weird." What a boring and flat life this would be without weird experiences!
