Summary: It takes me back
Review: I used to love looking thru this book when I was little, my mom's copy was so worn out. I love the illustrations of everything and the descriptions. I think it's a great nature book.

Summary: A must have for every home!
Review: In my continuing 'outdoors' education of my three sons, I have often found myself saying "I think I know what this plant is, but we'll have to check it out in Grammy's Wildlife Book to make sure." After years of scampering back to my mother's very worn copy of this wonderful resource book, I am finally purchasing one of my own. I used it when I was younger to help me identify anything from the basic backyard variety of plants to the bird high in the treetop singing that delightful song. I hope my boys get as much enjoyment from my copy as I did from my mother's. It is truly a 'must have' for every household of curious nature buffs.

Summary: Good reference work
Review: It's amazing how much information is packed into this small book. A must-have in every home.

Summary: Ecellent Illustrations
Review: My parents gave me a copy of an earlier edition for Christmas in 1986. I find I use this book more than any of my other nature reference books, mainly because the illustrations are so good and the quality printing makes them shine. I use the book often and recommend it highly. The text is concise and clear. An excellent choice for people who want a thoughtfully executed general reference book. Lately, I find myself using the wildflower and bird sections most often... but there's something here for just about anyone at just about any reading level.

I wasn't sure if this book was still in print. I'm glad to see it on Amazon... now I can order it for friends.

Summary: disappointed
Review: The pictures are nice drawings, very colorful but as a nature guide the information is too often incomplete or inadequate for clean identification. Some items (animals for instance) include details (like tracks) that for the other animals are not shown. For trees, some have bark depictions and others don't. The range maps are often (from my experience) inaccurate. Funghi information was totaly inadequate to differentiate one from the other. This book might be good for a coffee table but woefully short as a field guide. Many items in each section are not included... Then again, it is "Readers Digest" material.

The general overal quality reminds me of the difference between doing an information search on line with something like MSEncarta and the information you would find at a well equipped library. Personally, I require as accurate and complete information as possible when it comes to Nature Querries. This Publication is "puff".

Summary: Very well done...
Review: This book contains very clear drawings and descriptions of the most common plants and animals in North America. I especially like the section covering ecosystems in the beginning of the book. All you need to do is find the system you are located in and the most common inhabitants are listed (with page number) on the side. I think this is a great book and would definitely recommend it to a friend.
