Rating: Summary: we already, just needed bugliosi to remind us. Review: i thought helter skelter was the best truecrime book i ever read, bugliosi is the man, i was hoping he would write a book about this subject and im happy to say he didnt dissapoint. bugliosi lets you know from the get go that oj is a slasher-murderder walking free on the first page.
if bugliosi prosecuted this case we would have had a conviction or hung jury. he is the master of reasoning and logic, he litterally screams from these pages at the unbelievable incompetence of darden & clark, and the starcrossed ito. he points out that at times it seemed that the prosecution had pitty for simpson (bugliosi will not refer to him as 'oj' no cute nick names here) and actually helped the defence inadvertantly, the gallery of fools starts with garcetti, who moved the trial for unknown reasons to downtown l.a from santa monica, to ito, who foolishly allowed cochran to play the racecard, marcia clark, who admitted to the jury in her opening statements that 'im not here to win a popularity contest' darden, who wins the award for supreme stupidity for his horrible cross examination technique. this book is the definative statement of how to prosecute a clearcut case of obvious guilt. bugliosi points out blunder after blunder, the prosecutions lack of presenting extremely crucial evidence that could have put o'j' away; the police interview the day after the murders where oj claims he has no idea how he cut his finger, and the escape and l.a. freeway chase where oj was found with a fake beard and passport and over 8k in cash on him, not to mention a 9mm pistol? (if your innocent you dont threaten suicide!) the book is a non-stop read with eye opening case of incompetence (bugliosi says the obvious when he points out that a dime store employee could have tried this case better then darden and clark! finally in the end this is a very sad and frustrating book, why? because you just know that he is GUILTY!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Off the point, Abusive, Offensive... Review: Though I am in agreement with O.J. Simpson's guilt, I found Mr. Vincent Bugliosi's book to be scattered, lacking in true directive and above all, condesending and offensive... This book appears to be more of a tome devoted to Mr. Bugliosi's individual distaste for the world that he finds himself in! Filled with inexplicable tangents on such subjects as "pay-telephone" pushbuttons, lack of hotel towels, and his repeated rantings about how unhappy he is that, in his opinion, he is the ONLY intelligent person in the world! Repeatedly referring to everyone else including the reader, as stupid, infantile, posessing the I.Q. of "room temperature"! Keeping the title "Outrage" in mind one wonders if it is really Mr. Bugliosi's outrage at the Simpson verdict or about his very own, very apparent, "shortcomings"! I do not recommend this book to anyone. Anyone would be much better served by reading the fine book by Mark Fuhrman
Rating: Summary: Difficult to read, but well worth the effort. Review: Although this is a difficult book to read, it is well worth the effort. The author, a man of great intelligence and vast experience, has taken on the justice system, the press, lawyers for the prosecution and defense, and toward the end of the book, even the concept of God. He makes his case very well in each contest, except with God. This was a no-go as God was a no-show. Bugliosi is my hero and I am in agreement with him in almost all his opinions. Harry E. Rating: Summary: This is a good book that could have been much better Review: Apparently Vincent Bugliosi wants his old job back. The famous prosecutor argues persuasively that O.J. Simpson's criminal trial was characterized by obscene levels of incompetence on both sides of Judge Ito's bench. But like some other experts known for doing their homework, Bugliosi also has a bad habit of blowing his own horn. Fascinating information about the legal meaning of reasonable doubt and circumstantial evidence is overshadowed by self-serving excerpts from his previous books, and needless repetition of key points. In 226 pages, kind words for the involved lawyers don't waste more than a page and a half. One reason why might be that Bugliosi's editor wrote a preface to the hardcover edition of this book, and seems to be a friend of his. The dangers of that friendship are most evident in the lengthy epilogue, where Bugliosi runs amok: useful musings on race relations and the irrelevance of police brutality sit cheek-by-jowel with amatuer theology. But why we need to know that Bugliosi is agnostic, he doesn't say. More judicious editing could have pared at least 40 pages from this book, and softened its bitter aftertaste
Rating: Summary: Bugliosi chronicles the losing of a cause Review: It's true that if you stuck a pin in Vincent Bugliosi's ego, he would pop and fly around the room making deflating noises like an old cartoon character. This occasionally puts people off his books. Don't let it. "Outrage" will convince you that a) People vs. Simpson was winnable; b) Bugliosi would have won it, had he been the prosecutor (his final summation alone is more than worth the book cost); and c) that OJ Simpson is as guilty as sin. The best of the 60-odd OJ books and the only one nominated for the Edgar
Rating: Summary: From the beginning, Bugliosi was brilliant about this murder Review: It was so refreshing to have a lawyer not care, all the way back to the beginning of the trial, what others thought or said about him. He stood up for what he believed and was as usual the most brilliant of all lawyers in the country. The evidence that he brought out, that was never brought into the open by the prosecutors in the civil trial, would have sent O.J. where he belongs. It is ashame that Vincent was not able to be the prosecutor. Lawyers are so afraid of their image to speak what is the truth and so obviously "the truth" that I applaud Vincent for his remarkable insight and telling it like it is. He made it so clear
Rating: Summary: Compelling Review: Bugliosi makes the pieces fit. He presents a clear headed, common sense look at the myraid of compelling evidence against O.J. Simpson. The reader is left with no doubt that a travesty of justice happened with the jury verdict of "not guilty".
An extremely comprehensive overview of the case. Very well done, and defitinely worth the time.
Rating: Summary: A must read for any one confused by the Simpson verdict. Review: "Outrage" is a summation of one man's rant against a system he knows so well. I was angered by the trial because 1) Mr. Simpson was acquitted due in large part to disingenuous "smoke and mirror" shenanigans of Cochran et. al., and 2) the substance of the defense arguments insulted my common sense and intelligence. Mr. Bugliosi was one of the few bright spots during those dark days of our legal system. Mr. Bugliosi is an anachronism - like Jack Webb serving as guest cop on NYPD Blue. Shades of grey do not exist in Dragnet - Jack Webb only pursues the guilty. Today it doesn't seem that simple...or is it?
I knew what I was in for when Vincent began his diatribe with "I'm a picky guy..." Mr. Bugliosi's wrath extends to all participants in the case including the media. The book's central theme is that Mr. Simpson's guilt has no shades of grey - the case is black and white (pun intended). I believe that Mr. Bugliosi has the patience to braid the hairs of a gnat if that is was it would take to make a case he believes in. I am now able to succinctly (and convincingly) explain why Mr. Simpson is guilty and why the entire trial should anger all of us. "Outrage" is a must read for any one whose jaw hung open like the village idiot during the reading of the verdict. Mr. Bugliosi unscrambles the eggs and presents a logical case for the guilt of O.J. Simpson. Mr. Bugliosi's meticulous attention to detail and ability to distill the complex into logical, simple applets makes for a great read.
Rating: Summary: A Strategist's Viewpoint Review: Given the incredible amount of publicity surrounding the O.J.Simpson murder case -- the endless live coverage, the day-by-day, blow-by-blow analysis shows, the books by most of the the primary players -- it might be hard to imagine what even an experienced trial lawyer like Mr. Bugliosi would have to offer. It would be shame if such thinking led readers to pass on Mr. Bugliosi's "OUTRAGE", because Mr. Bugliosi offers plenty! The approach taken here is unique -- Mr. Bugliosi assumes the reader is largely familiar with the facts of the case (a safe bet, given the aforementioned publicity), and thus does not rehash them, presenting evidence only when such evidence was not used at the trial. Instead, Mr. Bugliosi focuses on matters of strategy, dissecting, in merciless detail, the manner in which both the prosecution and defense handled the case. His conclusions -- that both sides did an astonishingly bad job -- will likely surprise many, given the media's characterizations of the lawyers as "masterful" and of the "Dream Team" as providing the "best defense that money could buy", but Mr. Bugliosi backs his contentions up in convincing form. Nor does the author spare the handling of the case from the bench, or the analysis of the case by the "pundits" rounded up by the various networks. Thanks to Mr. Bugliosi's frank -- and sometimes passionate -- writing style, his focus on strategy over stale repetition, and his willingness to deal with the more controversial aspects of the trial head on (his chapter on Mark Fuhrman alone will raise eyebrows), anyone with even a casual interest in the O.J. Simpson trial would be well advised to read "OUTRAGE"
Rating: Summary: A shocking review of what should have been said and done... Review: As the title implies, Bugliosi is MAD about the result of
the trial, and he is not ashamed to say why! He reveals in
what can only be described as a straight from the hip
manner, the shocking blunders of the trial which lead to
the infuriating acquittal of a double murderer. If you ever
doubted OJ's guilt, you won't after reading this book !
A MUST READ !!
