Rating: Summary: A Monsterpiece Review: As a former psychology major, I understood the author's impatience with the subject as it relates to actual criminals. Taking the "BS" out of Behavioral Science is a good idea for a great deal of psychological theory as well. This book reveals -- in a way few psychology classes ever will -- the authentic sadism many harbor but only a few choose to actually act on. It's a gripping, tragic, often hilarious (if you like gallows humor) and very illuminating read.
Rating: Summary: Good, but too long Review: I thought this was a great book and it peaked my interest to a lot of things but it was hard to read through to the end.
Rating: Summary: Douglas Lacks Original Insight Review: Much like most books on serial killers, Douglas covers already known information on a popular topic. If you're looking for information on a few cases, it may be of help, but it provides little new information to an already hot topic.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful insight into the criminal mind Review: This is the book for True Crime fans.I found it fascinating how investigator Douglas was able to tell so much personal information about the criminals from observing the crime scenes.
Rating: Summary: More Ego Than Info Review: When I began Mind Hunter I was expecting a lot more than I actually received. The book is interesting but it really lacks insight as to how the FBI actually arrived at their profiles. Most of the time a quick summary of the crime would be given then the author would describe the killer without ever explaining how he came to the conclusions he did. It left me with more questions then answers.
Rating: Summary: Distrurbing and Insightful Review: I am really intrested in criminal profiling and this book provided a lot of interesting information. It was well written and gave intresting details on Mark Douglas' many profiles. It is amazing Douglas's powerful insight into crimes and his inductive reasoning. Douglas has a true gift. Thouroughly enjoyable, facinating and informative journey into the killer's psyche.
Rating: Summary: Helped in research Review: I had to do a criminology paper for a class and Mindhunter really helped. I learned a lot about the inside of the FBI and how criminal profilers find their killers. I really enjoyed it!
Rating: Summary: Broad and detailed Review: This being my first true crime novel, I found it fascinating, highly entertaining and educational. I hated to put it down. Having read the negative reviews I feared it would be more about the author than the art, but I found that wasn't true. It did contain biographical info about Douglas, but then again the title is Mindhunter; it's suppose to be about him! I highly recommend this if you, like me, are new at true crime, desire a fast paced, broad, detailed work dealing with real life monsters. It is written with both humor and intrigue. You won't be bored.
Rating: Summary: almost what I was looking for Review: I wanted to read a book that would describe the process of profiling, ie what clues at a crime scene lead profilers to target a certain type of person. The authors did this in a few cases which was great. However, often they just said (for example) suspect would have a red car. Then they would jump to when the suspect was caught and say yes he had a red car without saying how they arrived at that conclusion. I could do without all the ego and high school football reminences. If I wanted a bio of Douglas I would look for one. He does give credit to local law enforcement and only once comments negatively on a fellow FBI profiler.
Rating: Summary: Boring, Egotistical Garbage Review: I'm an avid reader of true crime books and this is just awful. I couldn't even finish it. This guy has quite an ego. He talks more about himself and his football days. He couldn't be more dull. If you want to read an interesting and insightful book from an FBI mindhunter check out Whoever Fights Monsters by Robert Ressler. Infinitely better than this garbage.
