Summary: Great advice on FBI Careers
Review: This book really is the ultimate guide to getting into the FBI. The FBI is highly competitive, and to get in takes more than being qualified. Its a process, as Ackerman points out, and this book helps with that process. My nephew is an FBI hopeful (he is still a few years away) but he read this book so he can get a leg-up on the competition. This is one of the most thorough books on any career I have ever seen. If you are serious about an FBI career, you MUST read this book and follow its advice.

Summary: Very Informative - A Wealth of Pertinent Information
Review: This is a wonderful book for anyone interested in a career with the FBI. It is very current, but I would watch for even newer developments. Though this book has been printed post-9/11, there still are other changes the Bureau has undergone that are not reflected in the book. For example, quite recently the Bureau added a 5th program under which applicants for the SA position can enter the Bureau: Computer Science. Traditionally, there were 4 programs: Law, Language, Accounting and Diversified. So don't rely solely on the book. Be sure to check with local recruiters and fbi.gov. This book is very exciting to read and follow for anyone who is actually going through the process. It's almost like a checklist of what needs to be done, and it introduces you to all the exciting things that the Bureau has yet to offer as a career.

Summary: FBI Careers, Thomas H. Ackerman
Review: This is an excellent source of information for someone who is not only considering a career with the FBI, but for someone who has bagan the application process as well. There are more career opportunities with the FBI than just that of a Special Agent. This book describes those positions, as well as the accompanying application, testing, and interviewing processes. Most importantly, it serves as a source of information to the Spouse of someone who is considering, or will be transitioning into a new career with the FBI. Many of the initial questions that an applicant or an applicant's spouse might have are, in my opinion, answered in this book.

Summary: The definitive resource on getting into the Bureau
Review: This is the book to buy if you'd like a detailed roadmap to land just about any job in the FBI. You couldn't ask for more than a step by step manual that lays it all on the line for you, including every twist and turn along the route, which is what you'll find in this book. It covers every aspect of applicant processing and has specific recommendations on how to capitalize on your education, training, military service, employment experience, and other skills to score above other applicants.

Summary: I am living proof that this book works.
Review: Using Ackerman's book as a roadmap, I passed all tests and interviews with relative ease. The greatest value to the book is Chapter 7, "Standing Out From the Crowd," which is worth its weight in gold. Ackerman's first book also has a chapter by the same title, and this is what sets his federal law enforcement career guides apart from others. I'm sure I will not be the only New Agent Trainee at Quantico who read this book.
