Summary: excellent book
Review: Although, you should never rely on one source for all of your information. This book is very good in explaining the detail of the basics on painting any automobile. I kept this book near me as I painted my own car.

I have yet to see a better book on the basics of painting an automobile. I recommend this book for any of you who are a beginner.

Summary: Good Step By Step Car Painting Book
Review: I think the book is written extemely well and orgainized. It explains the processes of painting the car as well as some history and updated information about bodywork, prep, and paint technology today. Very good book for the beginning DIY painter.

Summary: Pretty cover, unorganized content
Review: I wanted to know how to prepare the metal for paint. I went to that section of this book, and I came away confused. I was unimpressed with the shabby organization of the material, and half of each page is filled with large photos that do not convey enough information to warrant their size; in other words, they are filler material. For example, on p70 is a photo of a can of spray that takes up on third of the page! On p76, there is a one fourth page photo of someone pressing a scotch brite pad against the side of a car. It goes on and on like this. This book is full of comments about what to do, and what not to do, but is very shy on detailed information about HOW to do it, and at what Stage to do it. I can get more step by step information off a can of body filler.

Summary: excellent book
Review: I'm not sure why some have called it disorganized. I found it well laid out with NOT too many photos and plenty of text. I found the content a bit more dated than John Pfanstiehl's Automotive Paint Handbook or Boyd's Coddingtons's How to Paint Your Hot Rod, but still an excellent choice. BTW these three books will give you all the info you need.

Summary: the best book on painting cars i have found
Review: this book is by far the best book on painting cars that i have found. it does not get much more complete than this book does, and i would recomend it to anyone either interested in painting their own car, or even having their car painted at a shop so they know what to do or how it should be done

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Updated information and color photos

For anyone who is contemplating painting their own vehicle or even having someone else do it, this book will answer many questions for you. This is a good book made even better with the addition of color photos.
